NEWBIE'S GUIDE: New to the site? read here 1st.
Welcome to FMXAustralia
. If you are reading this, you are either a long time member that's wondering what I've written, and probably thinking to yourself "It's about bloody time", or you are, as the title suggests, a "Newbie" to this site. If so, i urge you to PLEASE take 5 min out of your time, and give this post a read through, to understand the ins and outs and how to's of this site to get the most out of what we offer.I will quickly and as breifly as possible, go over the main subjects that seem to cause the most teething problems around here for newbie's. Attaching pictures within forums The main problem you may find doing this is that a picture you have attached to a post, does not show up, but loads a link to be downloaded. This is quite simple to fix, as is most of the problems encountered by newbies, and a little no-how and knowledge goes a long way. Attachment file types that are accepted by FMXAustralia are "gif, png, txt, exe, zip, bmp, jpeg, mpg, mpeg, avi, wmv, mov, pdf"4 out of these 13 file types are picture formats (bmp, jpg, png & gif). Out of those 4 file types, only 2 (jpg, gif) will actually show up in the forums as a picture. The other formats (bmp, png) will only show up as a download link for other users to download the picture. Now, as you may realise,....no one wants to bother downloading a picture, they just wanna see what it is without having to bother. so to fix this problem, simply make sure your picture you are going to attach is a jpg or gif format. Allowable Picture size within forums If you have no worries with pics showing up when you attach them, the next problem, that may present itself, is the actual viewable size of the pic. Due to the average PC user, having a screen resolution of 800 x 600, and in some cases 1024 x 768, pictures in the forums should be no larger than 800 pixels wide to accomodate their screen. Anything larger, depending on how much larger, either myself or my parnter in Mungo Snitz Associates, Stevey S, will either resize it for you, or if it's rediculously massive, say like direct from a digital camera, and 2000 pixels wide or so, we'll just delete it and leave a lil note saying, resize and repost. Height isn't too much of an issue. Resizing Pics IF you have posted a pic and it shows up, and as mentioned above, is too large, then the next thing you need to do is resize your pic. Many members fail to realise, although Mods like myself and Steve do a lot of work around here to fix things that arn't quite right, YOU also have the power to edit your own post. At the bottom right of every persons post window there are "EDIT" and "QUOTE" buttons. If you click on the "EDIT" button of your own post, it allows you to edit what is in it, being, text and the attchment. Now, I've allready written a "How-To" for resizing pictures, so scoot on over to This Thread and give it a read over. Inapropriate pics There are minor rules surrounding pictures that are posted up. Keeping in mind this site is an FMX site, which is open to all ages, pictures you post up are viewed by the very young to the very old (hehe, well mature aged ) So keeping within guidelines is a must. Basically, no **** pics, no **** links, no pics of chicks with see through clothing, and generally anything distastfull. If any of these pics are encounted throughout the forum, they shall be deleted. If these types of pics continue to be posted by you (Whoever's reading this) then warnings shall be issued.Thread Vs Post Some new members have trouble defining the difference between a "Thread" and a "post" Forums are made up of several sections. * Section 1) the MAIN forum area, which consists of the seperate sections. Each section is seperated into specific topics. (Eg. "Grease Pit = mechanical problems. "If You've got it, Flaunt it" = Pics/video) * Section 2) within each section 1 forum, you will find pages upon pages of individual "THREADS". Threads should only be started to address a topic you want answers to, pics of, opinions on, or have some pics/video you want to share with us all. Also, when starting your own "THREAD", make sure you are creating it within the right forum section. As mentioned above, each forum contains specific information for individual problems. Eg. Need help on a mechanical problem on your bike?..find the "Grease Pit". (Note: all forum sections have a description of what should go in each) Within a "THREAD" individual members will reply, each reply is a "POST". Point being, if you have several pics to post, there is no need to create several "THREADS" for them. simply create one thread with an appropriate title such as "pics of me ridin" and once the first thread starting post is created, continue to "reply" to your own thread, and attach more pics. (NOTE: only one attachment is permitted per single post) double & triple posts & post counts Post counts mean nothing...i repeat. POST COUNTS MEAN NOTHING. You are not "cool", nor are you better than anyone else on this site if you have a larger number next to "total Posts". This may sound hypocritial coming from the one member who has the single most posts on this site, if you feel that way, may i point you towards these following stats: 1) I am a super moderator, in which i help a lot of people, with a lot of things. 2), I am on here 10hours of almost every night. 2), i have been here close to 2 years. All these things added together make for one large post count. If you feel you need to post 2 or 3 times in a row to make one point or spread out several points, simply for the reason of raising your post count, you will soon see your "post count" drop to zero. This site is about QUALITY over QUANTITY, it is much better to have 10 quality posts than 100 half assed ones spread out. Abusive behaviour, warnings and banning 99% of the time, we dont have a problem with any behaviour here at FMXAustralia, but on occasion, there is need for action. This action comes in the form of your account being banned from this site. Although banning is a last resort for any of us, so we do give out a few friendly warnings before seveer action is taken. To be banned you'd have to directly abuse someone or everyone constantly, as we dont take too kindly to immature name calling here. If you make the choice to sign up again and continue you're immature abusive ways, we will have no choice but to block your entire IP address, and you will not be able to view this web address at all. So play nice, and everything will be golden ![]() Picture Signitures You may see several members here use pictures as their signiture. I have written a "How-To" for this allready, so if you would like to check out This Thread FMXAustralia's extra features FMXAustralia is not only your one stop fmx site for all things newsworthy in the world of FMX/MX/SX throughout Australia and minor overseas information, but it is also your one stop FMX SHOP!. that's right, FMXAustralia has a shop where you can purchase many products such as shirts, shorts, winter gear, stickers, video's, safety gear, jewelery, from such big names in the industry as Skin Industries, MotoXXX, Sha Sha, Warpt, Metzger, airtime, Metric, LBZ, Unit, Balls Deep, the list goes on.
