Promoters of the THQ World Supercross GP/THQ AMA Supercross Series, CCE, have announced that they will deliver live streaming video of this weekend’s 125cc and 250cc main event's from the THQ World Supercross GP/THQ AMA Supercross Series race from St. Louis’ Edward Jones Dome.
This is the first live motorsports event hosted by ESPN360, an online media outlet that broadcast's live events, game highlights and inside analysis of various sporting events. The one-off broadcast will be used as a trial run.
Whilst the news is exciting for the future of motorcycle racing live broadcast a large percentage of the intended audience will not see it due to there internet service providers not being associated with the service. The coverage should still be seen as a positive step forward and a sign of things to come.
It may have gone largely un-noticed but the Namur round of the 2004 World Motocross Championship was broadcast live over the internet, whilst the commentary was in French and it featured some pretty bad George Michael music the fact remained that live motocross was beamed live onto many computer screens around the world.
In the grand scheme of things the internet is still extremely young and the move to live broadcasts is a positive one that will become the norm in the very near future.
“For ESPN360, we are excited to have the opportunity to showcase a live, major event in THQ World Supercross GP/THQ AMA Supercross Series,” said Len Mead, director, new media content. “ESPN has had a long, established relationship with supercross, and this is the next step in showing our dedication to the sport. We appreciate the support that Clear Channel Entertainment’s Motor Sports division has given us in our venture with ESPN360.”
All content is customizable and can be watched in a variety of screen sizes ranging from full-screen to a compact mode that can be viewed on a small portion of the user’s screen. ESPN360 provides users with the capability to add and delete videos from their playlists, arrange the order of viewing, and save favorite clips and playlists in My ESPN - the users own channel within the ESPN360 environment. For more information, log on to www.espn360.com to check local Internet Service Provider compatibility.
The normal webcast will still be available to those who do not get ESPN360 through the usual links on the CCE website
