The Sideways Seat Grab (Or.. Off the side Grab) relies alot on the Superman Seat Grab, and the ability to really push hard on the grab hand. It also takes the normal Seat Grab to a whole new degree of variation, which can be the difference between a good run and a great run.

To be able to do this trick, it will be necessary to be able to do a normal Superman Seat Grab http://www.fmxaustralia.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=3308 .

1. For this trick you will need about 60 feet at least to have enough time to get yourself past the side of the bike. When you approach the ramp, sit in the normal attack position. As you hit the ramp, you want to move back a bit on the seat to find the Grab hand.

2. Get the Grab hand held into the grabhole as soon as you can, and make sure you have a solid hold of the grab. This will be needed to push your body out to the side of the bike. When you grab, push yourself up off the bike in a normal Seat Grab fashion.

3. When you get your body and legs above the seat height, this is time for the trick to go into the "Sideways" stage. You want to hold the grab hole tightly, and push as hard as you can on the grab hole, stretching the grab arm out as far as possible. This will in a sense whip the bike out to the side which will then bring your body and legs to one side of the bike.

4. Now that you are off the side of the bike, it is time to make the most of extension, so bring both legs together and stretch your legs out as straight as you can. Make sure to keep a strong presence on the grab hand.

5. When you come back for landing, you need to pull as hard as you can on the grab arm, to pull the bike back to the centre, and this will give your body leverage to get your legs back over the seat to come down for landing. Make sure to hold the grab as long as possible to get your body back for landing.

Main Points:

- Make sure you have a very solid hold on the Grab hole for extending the trick
- Keep your body at least 20 centimetres higher than the seat height, as this will make sure you don't get stuck on one side of the bike
- Push hard on the bike with the Grab hand... the key of this trick is to the strong hold and man-handeling of the bike.
- For greater extension, when you leave the ramp, try put a normal whip into the trick before extending the Sideways Seat Grab.
- Also for greater extension, try turn your head and look at something completely sideways to the opposite direction of your feet, you'll find if you look back harder you will extend the sideways grab even more!
- Hold the Grab for as long as you can while getting back on for landing.

Good Luck :)

Picture - From another view at King of the Coast (taken by Grant Cross). For bigger extension, use your head to look sideways in the opposite direction and try look backwards.
