A Double Grab Indy is one of those tricks that is very technical, but for some reason, gets overlooked somewhat for it's difficulty by judges and crowds because your arms and legs aren't all over the shot like a One Hand Indy, which is a real shame.
No matter, for rider's, this trick is more for the advanced rider, and if you are contemplating learning this trick, you should have already Double Grabs http://www.fmxaustralia.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=3616 and also Seat Grab Indy's (SSG Indy's) http://www.fmxaustralia.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=3486
1. You will need a distance of about 60 feet at least to be able to execute this trick, so approach the ramp in a forward position, to keep the front of the bike down when you launch into the air, and then push back off the bike as you want to keep the bike balanced alot.
2. As you leave the ramp, depending on your style of Double Grab, take one hand off like a conventional seat grab, and then bring the second hand back for the double grab, or just bring both back at the same time. Get the grab, and make sure you have a really strong grab on the hole.
3. When you have a good grab with both hands, you will want to lean your body to the side you prefer to Indy too. This will feel alot different to One Hand Indy's (if you can do them) and definetly much more different to SSG Indy's. This is because you have your centre of balance and leverage on your arms in a different position when both hands are at the back of the bike. When you twist, you should be able to look out to the same side, this will make it easier for your legs to do what they need to do.
4. You now have your body twisted, so all you need to do is push our legs out into the indy position. This will once again feel alot different to other Indy tricks. Concentrate more on pushing the leg which is going behind, as this is what will accentuate the extension. Make sure to push your legs out as far as possible aswell, just to make sure you will not be getting caught up at all on re-entry.
5. When coming back to land, make sure you get your legs back straight on the right side of the bike before you let go of the grab holes. Get your legs straight, and then grab onto the bars again for landing.
There you go, the Double Grab Indy explained. As you can see by the description, it is a little more advanced than what it looks like sometimes.
Main Points:
- Get a very firm hold of the Grab Holes before you begin to Indy
- Twist your body before you push out the legs
- It helps to look to the side you extend too
- For extension, try think more of your behind leg, and straighten as much as possible
- Always remember where the Handlebars are, because as you let go of them, they can swing from side to side, and that is not something you want when you land.
- And bring your legs back to straight before you let go of the Grab hole to get the Bars to land.
Good Luck!
