View Full Version : "How-To" - Nac Nac

The Nac Nac I think is considered the earliest Freestyle Trick, invented by none other than the King... Jeremy McGrath. MC used to pull out a Nac nac everytime he won a race, and that tradition still continues in racer's today. It isn't the biggest trick pulled out in Freestyle MX these days, but it is always a trick that needs to be known how to do, as it may be a beginner trick, the balance you learn to do a Nac Nac is priceless.
1. As you approach the ramp, keep the bike in the centre of the run-up, and as you hit the ramp, keep the bike straight and keep your head forward and arms bent.
2. As you leave the ramp, you want to pull your body closer to the front of the bike, and if you take your right leg off for the nac nac, it is best that you position your body over the right hand side, and keep your head forward and right.
3. Lift your right leg up off the peg, and begin to twist your body backwards. When first beginning them, just bring your leg upto the side plate and give it a tap, then you will know where your foot is. Do this a few times until you can bring your leg up high enough that when you go to tap the side plate, you actually miss it and go over the seat.
4. When you have this sorted out, will start to feel your body floating a little off the bike (thats only the feeling in your head, not whats happening). So when you go for the nac nac, bring your leg up, around and over the seat, and then try to touch your heal on your arse. There's no way you can do it in that position, but if you think of it like that, that's how you want to extend your leg back .
5. Make sure you keep your left foot planted firmly on the footpeg too, as this will help maneouvre your body on the bike with the twisting of your body, and the balance being over to the one side of the bike.
6. To come back, you just need to pull hard on the handlebars, and swing your leg back over the back fender/seat. Once again, make sure to keep your leg high enough, because you don't want to get your leg stuck on the one side. So keep your leg up, swing it over and find the foot peg for landing.
Main Points:
- Keep your body weight over the front of the bike
- Swing your leg, and keep your leg up high
- Keep your left foot firmly placed on the footpeg, and don't let it come off
Good Luck

I found when learning nac nacs try and take it quite slow. If you go straight to a big extention you can have a preety hard fall. I had some close calls going to big to soon.
Cheers...

i'll post my nac pic later...if you look backwards when u nac nac ( like try and look back at the ramp) the bike will whip out more and your leg will come round further

Bigest trick to nacnac's is been comfortable with u're whips, if ur comfy whip'n than nacs are easy...
on approch take u're whip line up the ramp not ur straight line, this will help the bike come out and keep u balanced, then simply swing u're leg over the back... when u start getting more comfy wif em u can start whiping the bike harder and lookin back... most important thing though is to whip the bike out otherwise it'll follow ure leg aroundand u'll land all messed up, hope that made sence... :D
Oh and don't let ur other foot slip off :p

hey all driscoll here havent posted in a while so i thort id tell u all bout my attempt at the nac-nac. me my bro n our crew were doin some jumps and i was doin some good combos so i thort it was time for the nac-nac i had done it a few times before but haddent tried it in a while so i thort wat the hell n went 4 it. it was all good but when i was bringin my leg back ova the seat it got stuck n i landed half of the bike n it slid sideways and headed strait into the dam. after all of that the motor seized and i had to rebuild it. it was the most expensive trick eva. by the way wen i can be stuffed i will upload a vid of it.

yeh i'd say that was a pretty expensive trick, lesson learned, don't put ur downy near a dam! or fences for that matter of fact if your me....

whenever i take my right foot off the peg it just automatically starts to whip, i think i must have all my weight to one side or something, ask steve he's been doing them lately.

i reckon the best way is to have a pretty good gap so if your foot does get stuck u may have a chance to get it back on and learn how to whip so all u have to do is whip the bike out and just put our leg where the seat would be if your jumping straight

coz im younger than u people u mite not listen but when u bring ur leg back over lift it high so theres more chance of it gettin back to the pegs. by the way other than the snitz did anyone no that mcgrath invented the nac nac in 1994 in the middle of a race

I had a go at nac nacs on the weekend.
I started off looking forwards and didn't get my leg very far over.
I then tried turning my body and looking back. I got my leg heaps further.
Although I felt like I was getting my leg a lot further back than what I did.
Next time I'll have to try touching my boot on my bum. I never though of that.
Here is a pic that Muzza took.

Well my nacs suck cause I cant get my knee over the seat most of the time, but here is a pic of McGrath throwing a nac off of a steep step up that isnt alot of air time, just to show you that it can be done on a small jump. But I think you would need more then 10 feet. Keep in mind, this is Mcgrath!!

thats a step up jump which is preety big when you look at how far up he is its not a small jump cause its very very steep

Lookin good jayden...
Yeah i've nearly had my foot slip off a couple of times when i've tried them and i found that pulling up on ur bars ( it sort of pushes ur body down ) helps to push ur foot into the peg more..
Just sumthin lil that might help???

well i can do whipped out nac's jayden so hear is my advice, come at the ramp on an angle like your going to whip, soon as u leave the ramp pull your arms in towarss your chest and have the bars full lock point backwards to the way you are going, have your leg swing in a fluent motion and twist your leg with the big try not to twist it on the peg itself as it's more prone to slipping off that way. then crank them bars back to straight the bike up and swing you body back around to meet, everything should come back semi straight with the motion off things and you should be rolling away smoothly with a lovely looking nac =)
