A mate of mine was telling me this afternoon that he just seized his sons KX80... Apparently a few people have told him that if you leave petrol and synthetic oil mixed for more than three weeks the oil brakes down and can seize the engine... What the f#ck..?

I've read my bike manual inside out and have never come across it...

Anyone care to comment..

I've heard of this problem, it's called the "Kawasaki syndrome" if you try and ride them, they break. LOL. Sorry, just a lil joke, I havent heard of that happening with any model bike. Ya got me. Although, If ya got petrol mixed for that long, ya not riding enough. hehe.

Im not sure but its probally not a good idea to have mixed fuel sitting in your tank for 3 weeks and then firing it up and riding off strait away. The oil would sepereate. What I would do is give the bike a good shake around before starting it, to make sure all the oil has been mixed in again. Good luck :)

it was probly just running too lean or something .... if you leave it sitting it shouldn't seperate but if it did then the oil would be at the bottom anyway, which would make it run rich, not seize it.

if you leave synthetic gearbox oil in your bike for a long time without riding it attracts moisture and can rust the bottom of your sump.

some people drain there carbys either before or after riding this way when premix has been sitting and seperated it wont go straight into the motor, premix does seperate so before riding you shoulda always shack and rattle the tank so it mixes.
my mate managed to blow his cr 125 by letting his fuel sit.
apparently it went like a rocket first though
straight fuel?????

yes chrome barrels are a big problem

50_freak
15th July 2003, 11:23 PM
because after a while the piston will wear out the barrel.(it does take a while tho)

50_freak
15th July 2003, 11:25 PM
and because of this alot of kawas will cease quite often

oil doesnt seperate from the fuel once its mixed what happeneds is the fuel loses it octane rating after a while some fuels more than others dipends on the quality of fuel to start with i never use fuel more than a week old because thats what happened to a few people i know especially with the dodgey fuel they are selling these days

if u leave fuel and oil mixed for a while the oil seprerates from the fuel and the oil sits on the top and thats how the engine seizes the motor because there isnt any lubrication, and yeh it will go heaps good without oil mixed in
