View Full Version : Chick's to ride FMX comps

fmxer_girl

How many out there think it is appealing to watch a Chic ride a FMX demo or comp even if she's not as good as the guys.

Just to see a femle jump ramps and pull off a few minor tricks.

What do you all think? Do we have to become as good as the guys to get anywhere in the sport of FMX or do you think it is fair that we get just as much publicity for just giving it our best go.

lyk the women's motoX racing, they get ranked between each other. But FMX cuz there's not as many doing it to actually have a chics comp where do you feel we fit into the sport??

I think with FMX it just comes down to what trix you can do. Doesn't matter wether your a chick or not, cause lets face it, unless you got humungous tits on ya, no one's gunna know that your a chick under all ya gear, unless people state so. I think chicks can compete with the guys if they can do all the same tricks. Lets face it, it's a dog eat dog world out there and this is an "equal oportunity" time, so if a chick can cut it with the guys then Super, get her out there, but if they cant, well whats the point in watchin someone pull lil old school trix off an itty bitty gap? that goes for male OR female, after all, demo's and comps are mainly there to entertain, and the bigger the gap/trick, the more entertaining.

In short, I dont think it's worth having just a female fmx comp, HOWEVER, if a chick could cut it with the guys, then great, go show em up. Oh, and remember, with most of the smaller comps and such, there is surly always going to be an ametuer section :)

(I think i put that so i didn't offend the ladies out there, sorry if i did, just my 2 cents)

yes well said, but it would be great to see girls giving it a go.

It would be great to see a chick at the top level of freestyle.

BUT i think its stupid that a chick could get into a comp, when only able to pull off the basic tricks. Isnt that sexist, letting her compete, while a guy who did the same tricks would have NO chance? (my example being heidi henry at that german comp)

no one's gunna know that your a chick under all ya gear
wot about the hair from under the helmet and the more advanced riding position u can always tell its a chix
i reckon they should have a chixs comp that way u spread the word on femal fmx and more chix get into it making the competition more fierce and pretty soon chix will be better then the guys:eek:
ITs a vicious cycle but eventually it will happen:D

Mungoman45
2nd May 2003, 12:17 AM
"More Advanced riding position" ???, sounds like "someone" thinks they're superior. Anywho, as for the Hair dealio, i just figured you'd have it up under the helmet. but thats just my twisted way of thinkin, call me kooky, lol. But like i said, It's all about "equal rights" these days, but soon as women think (or actually CAN) do something as good or better than guys they want everyone to "look at me, look at me" i mean in this day and age, who really cares if ya are a chick with this sport, just get out there and DO IT.

(Sorry, how well did i put THAT people, lol)

Yeah... Fair call.. Kind of..???? Mungo dude, I know where you are going but I'm not sure it came out right.. Or, maybe I read it the wrong way... I'm a d#ck and I'll be the first person to admit it.!

Personally, I don't care if you are male, female, transsexual, bisexual, cross gender or anything else I may have missed (damn, I did it again.. Sorry to the bisexual/transsexual minority)..

If you can huk a bike and make it look good then your OK in my books..

If you want to compete in comps then you must reach or attain the level of the comp no matter what gender you are... The general idea of comps is to entertain the people that come to see them and grade the riders along the way... (Yeah, Yeah the riders make it all happen)...

Everyone looks like a "mototool" in a helmet and riding gear.. We all look the same.. Who cares...??? We are all equals..

"The people that differentiate us are the people that reduce us.."

Take it as you want.... Just my thoughts...

thanks for the replys... its real interesting to know other peoples opinion's.

Don't get me wrong thou, I agree that chicks shouldn't get judged better or even be allowed to ride at a comp jus cuz of their gender. But in what other sports are females compared to the guys?

Alot of promoters I've jumped for in demo's have thought of it as a drawcard for spectators, being something different. Even if I'm not pulling KOD's etc I've been given just as much publicity as the guys... but the guys don't really appreciated it. Ther view is I'm not as good as them but hav been given the same treatment -fair enough.

Maybe its not fair but what if its what spectators want to see!!
How would u react if u had to ride a demo with a chick and the crowd luved her more than u -jus cuz she's female- ??

Keep yer opinions coming

Mungoman45

Thanx NoLimits Bro, you put that marvellously, exactly what i wanted to say. I was just comin at it from the whole Sex/equal oportunity side.
Anywho, in reply to your last comment fmxer_Girl, personally, If I was to ride a demo or comp with a chick and she got more of the attention/endorsment/points/whatever else............just for the soul purpose of her being a female, then yes, i would be pissed & it would be unfair, especially in a sport where you get judged for the talent you have, not for the gender you are.
Fair enough if it wasn't a comp and points didn't matter and the chicks get more attention, JUST for bein chix, that would be ok, becaise we're all just there to entertain, and if the women are more entertaining then great, but if it comes down to points and especially if money is envolved and chix get the points, just because of "wow factor" of a chick rider, then that obviously isn't fair.

..............Christ i ramble a lot..........

shirefmx
2nd May 2003, 05:37 PM
i think if there are girls riding good then they should have comps ... but they shouldnt be judged against guys as there isn't as many girls who ride so the talent pool is much smaller ... sure it may not be as entertaining as watching good guys ride but i'm sure we could fit a small section of chick riders into most comps or demos, if there is enough half decent chick riders to warrant this however.

NOLIMITS
3rd May 2003, 01:54 AM
Yeah for sure Shirefmx but you need to look at how many we are talking about.... How many FMX chix are there out there...??? Five or ten max in the whole country... You put on a comp how many are going to compete..? What's the point running a seperate section in a comp if two chix turn up.... If they want to ride yeah let them ride.. Give them a demo spot or something like that if they can't cut it at the top level... Give them the opportunity to progess and learn...

I agree fully with what Mungo said in his last post... If there is money/ranking etc involved then chix should not attract extra points just because they are chix... This is the basis of descrimination and let's not get me started on that sh#t...

If you want to be equal them match the task, don't ask for consessions...

shirefmx
4th May 2003, 03:26 AM
nah chicks shouldn't get extra points if theycompete against guys ...thats not what i'm sayin ... i'm sayin maybe they could be a part of regular comps or demo's but with smaller pay cause of course they're not gunna be as good and there isn't gunna be as much competition

Just in reply to that lil quote, thats is a valid point, but it has several major flaws.....
1) Other major sports usually compete in "Teams".
2) Other major sports have hundreds of competitors, Female Freestyle riders are a VERY small majority.

ANYWHO........
Can we all agree on these valid points, wrap this up and put this baby to rest? :)

1) There Shouldn't be a seperate womens FMX comp/demo unless there is enough female riders to warrant it...

2) Women should be allowed to compete with the guys in comps/demo's IF their skill level is equivilant...

3) If women compete with guys in "Comps" where money is envolved, they should not recieve "wow factor" points for the fact they are female...

4) If a woman rides in a "demo" where there is no money envolved, just entertainment value, and they revieve more attention due to the fact they are a woman, then so be it...

Do those 4 main points sum up what we've all stated?

ok, I've just read all your voiced opinions, and this is the conclusion I have come to.....

Chicks are gonna get treated differently... NOW, but once it becomes more common for chicks to compete then it'll be split up into the genders, which hopefully will become a more even playing field.

I know female FMX-ers are so far and few between, trust me, I've been looking for one to photograph, with no such luck.

I think the guys have gotta give us girls credit for giving it a go, remember it's not that easy to do a cordova when the bike is heavier than you are.

Fmxer_girl, I say do what you do, power to you, and as for the guys, give us some credit for trying, it's all got to do with patience!

yes yes, I meant no disrespect to your wife Slamma or any of the fine upstanding women we have on this site, and everyone's opinions are valid..........that does not however mean that everyone's opinions should be posted on a worldwide internet site for all to see, not every1 is interested, if it's personal use PM.

I do come close to the line every now and then with some of my comments, but i hope people realise that i am only joking. I feel the line was severly crossed with Redbull fmx's lil comment above, and i didn't feel like i needed to comment, but now that i have been brought into something that may get out of hand, i feel my opinion needs airing. There has been a lot of wasted space, pointless threads and page after page of nothing but people bad mouthing each other lately. I heard from a lot of members from this site that they were sad to see the site go when Adam shut it down.....yet when we ALL got a second chance at Adams choice, not a lot of you are respecting what we have here. I think it's time for a lot of people to grow up, realise what we have hear and think before they post. it IS an fmx site, and if it's not fmx related and there is not a complete forum dedicated to it, dont post it, simple. Ok, with that all said. I'm spent, thats my piece on all the crap thats been goin on. either take it on board or dismiss it and run the risk of being banned.

Ok I realise this is an old thread... but JEEZUS...

It seems that men and women will NEVER be able to agree when it comes to women entering areas dominanted by men.

This REALLY S**TS me cause I have always been of the firm belief that if a woman really wanted to and was uninhibited she could do whatever the men could. (If anyone makes a crude or sexist joke of that I will KICK SOME A$$!!!) I realise now that sometimes there are very real and very valid constraints that prevent women from reaching those goals. HOWEVER, that should not stop chicks from trying to kick guys butts time after time.

I agree with Shire FMX's comment about giving girls a go and setting up a comp if they have the numbers or getting em to do a demo, even the blokes had to start somewhere huh?! Sexuality and that whole biker sl*t thing should not even come into. It's only cause men are so used to seeing chicks around moto-x scantilly clad and doin promos and/or throwing themselves at the riders all of which is BULLS***!

Change your perception!

I say KUDOS to chicks who ride... I hope to be one of them soon myself. Although I can't be trusted on a pushy let alone something with a motor LMAO...

That's my two fitty cents worth :D

i second bg_v, ok, as a general all rounder comment, my opinion about the whole chicks n fmx scene is that firstly, theres not alot stopping us from becoming comp 4 the guys, and secondly, if she rides as good as them then good for her, let her compete, sure the sport is dominated by males, there are advantages and disadvantages for both, theres no right or wrong,
you cant stereotype chicks by quoting a line from a good charlotte song, were not all the same, i mean fark dude, if you think all us girls are groupies then u got another thing coming,
ok, and sexuality shouldnt even come into this whole topic,
all i can suggest to all is "go out and do your own thing, regardless of what others say or think"
so to all, quit being so shallow minded, there is no right answer or opinion to this whole topic, if your as good as the top riders then u deserve to be up there with them, girl or guy!

Chapter II is one of my favouriate vids but that part just pisses me off so bad... something you should know is that girl Joey had never ridden a ramp before and they (x-games) let her go out there............. unlike Heather Williams, who I personally know and has told me this, who jumped perfectly out there and pulled out a whole run of tricks but noooooooooooooooooooooo they jus want to make us (chixs) look bad and put the crash on the vid.....................

u see this is my point all along about chixs in FMX, I wasn't alowd to ride X games in NZ, not even do a demo because some of the riders don't want me out there.............. imidated........???????
.......because of the attention a girl recieves when shes not even pulling out the tricks.................. maybe, because you see in their eyes I'm a crap freestyler and yes thats true, i only pull a few basic tricks....................... but I get the biggest crowd response because Im a female, there's what 100+ male fmxers in ozz and NZ................ how many female fmxer's????????????????????

Its like when the sport first started it was pretty rad, everyone had to start somewhere and even if they were crap like the first Crusty vids, people liked it............... well guess what people, there's a chix fmxer in ozz now and hopefully there will be more soon :)

peace
