2004 AMA THQ SUPERCROSS CHAMPION, CHAD REED WINS THE MAXXIS US OPEN FOR THE SECOND YEAR IN A ROW

October 12, 2004 (press release)

Carlsbad, CA – October 11, 2004 - Reigning Maxxis US Open Champion, Chad Reed, took home the US Open Title again on Saturday, October 9th, 2004 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, NV.

Reed overcame former two-time Maxxis US Open Champion, Ricky Carmichael in what was anticipated to be the biggest match up of the weekend. On Friday night Reed took the lead after four laps and never looked back, taking an easy win on the first night of the two night program.

Saturday night Reed returned to secure his overall title in front of a sold out crowd. Despite leaving the gate in fourth place, Reed quickly moved up to second behind Carmichael. A crash at the end of the first lap set Reed back twelve seconds which he fought to make up. In lap seventeen, Reed was able to overcome Carmichael take his second win of the weekend.

“I felt really good coming in. My bike felt great and I was excited to unleash that on the track,” Reed said of the races in Vegas. “The first night went really well and despite making a silly mistake on the second night, I was able to capitalize on the situation and take the win. The weekend turned out awesome. “

Reed’s win in Las Vegas follows a tremendous year of racing. In May of 2004, Reed won the AMA THQ Supercross Series in Las Vegas, NV. Moving straight into the 12 event AMA Chevrolet Motocross Series, Reed ended up on the podium for the second time this year as he took second in the series.

For those who weren’t able to make it to Las Vegas for this year’s Maxxis US Open, be sure to check it out October 24th on NBC at 4:30 pm EST. Viewers will be able to experience the on-board excitement of Reed’s races courtesy of the Slim Jim Helmet Cam which was debuted over the weekend. That race doesn't mean much? hahahahaha.

It's the biggest/richest race in motorcycling. If you don't think Ricky's career (Supercross/Motocross), doesn't mean anything to win a "one off" race, then he isn't serious about his job.

Mining companies don't back off for a big contract.
The thing is, it's a big race. If Chad didn't win, I wouldn't go make excuses for him.

Chad Reed passed Ricky Carmichael before he had bike problems.

Bubba wasn't racing because this isn't the 05 season.

Yep. Atleast let Carmichael make excuses himself. He is big (as in age haha) enough to make decisions himself. Reed beat Carmichael hands down.

Well maybe when Ricky's bike breaks down or crashes before Reed passes him, make some excuses, till then.

I found this on the Cobra's website.

"Hey,

Schnell won 125 class. Millsaps was faster but faded and actually broke his rear brake. Tommy Hahn got a strong second. Lot of crashes in the second whoops section.

Track is ok but the dirt got hard packed, slippery and dusty.

In 250, RC got the holeshot, he lead for a few laps. CR passed him and pulled away. Chad made a big mistake in the whoops and Ricky caught him back. Reedy regroupped and pulled away again. RC looked good but .5 sec slower than Chad. RC has a "yellow honda". His bike looks like his CR 250 from 03 with yellow plastic... I guess he left Honda with the shims from the shock

Larocco rode strong and got 3rd. Voss rode great too. Tortelli was as high as 5th but came short on a small triple and overshot the next turn. He landed on a wall almost in the crowd... Scary. Wey rode good for 5th with a stock CR 250 midified with white and black plastic... Weird looking.

Hansen rode with the KTM 250 but I dont think he is ready yet. He is not the Hansen I used to see at the Yamaha track, fast and technical.

Races were too long 20 laps for 125 and 25 for 250. It got boring quick.

I hope it will be better tomorrow.

Talk to you later.
