Hey guys and gals i had my first proper ride at fort lytton motoX track on sunday & I had my first go at a proper dirt ramp. I am hitting it ok and getting decent air for a newbie rider but i need help in the air. I know i am meant to hold the clutch slightly in the air so that i can use the rear breaks to level out the bike. My only problem is that i can't get my fingers over the clutch, as soon as i get in the air my hands are basically glued to the bars. Can anybody give me some pointers on what i should do and has anybody been in the same situation. Oh and also everytime i go riding my hands hurt so much and just opening my palm hurts so much and they hurt just as much the next day, can anybody tell any exercises that i can do to stopthis awful pain.

hey for the finger prob i used 2 have it 2. Try use 2 fingers for the clutch thatl make u grab more of the bars. When you get strong enough u can go 2 1 finger on the clutch.. that way u can hold bars and still use clutch if ya get me..

depending on how rough you want to be you can use no clutch going up through gears (thats what i do in long races) but use it going down. that saves abit of energy in ya arms.

if you have troubles taking your fingers off the bars in the air, have your fingers on the clutch before you hit the lip, have two; no more on there, for even gripping, then go to one when feeling comfortable.

put your middle finger over the clutch as u leave the ramp/jump and try to level the bike out just by moving ya body around, u shouldn't have to use the rear brake to often and make sure if u do use it, the front end is up and not going down cause u'll crash

Pull the front brake-ha ha ha it screws u up bad

practice slow wheelies, and when the bike gets too hight for you pull in the clutbh and tap the brake, after a while when ever the bike gets too high you'll automatically do it.

Sounds like you need to be gripping the bike more with your legs when riding.

Are you a sitter or a standed? When i was a kid I along with alot of others, I always sat on the bikes ( maybe the way the ergo's were then), I found that this sitting slackness caused you to rely on the handlebars way too much, if you held onto your old fella that tight it would fall off :wow4: You end up with a habit of not using your legs, in turn this caused major arm pump. I am no FMXer, just a bush rider that would ride a average of 160+ k's nearly every weekend. So "Arm Pump" is something very common, I still get it but only like in the first 30 mins of bush riding or whellies, it's a sutble reminder to grip the bike tighter with my legs. I'll stop for 5-10 mins till they feel fine & that's usually it for the day.

Try to become lighter on the bars, believe they asisst the steering & are more of an aid of turning not actually the turning device. confused? this should help the tingles...
