Our friends at ESPN are continuing their role as the world leader in action sports with the X Games Global Championships. X Games Moto-X veterans MXi will be producing the freestyle competiton which is sure to feature one of their challenging and innovative courses. This series will give new opportunities to global athletes, and is opening the doors for many countries that have not yet had athletes represented at the X Games. Here are the details so far from our "gal-on-the-go" Melissa from ESPN:

Concept: The annual first-of-its-kind competition features two distinct venues hosting events in summer and winter action sports simultaneously, and groups teams of the world's top athletes into six regions to compete for the X Games Global Championship title.

Dates: May 16-18, 2003

Format: Six teams representing six world regions, consisting of two top athletes per world region* for each sport discipline, will compete in 11 different disciplines from six sport categories:
X Games Sports: Moto X Freestyle
Bike Stunt Vert and Park
Skateboard Vert and Park
Aggressive In-line Skate Vert and Park
Winter X Sports: Men’s & Women’s Snowboard SuperPipe
Men’s & Women’s Ski SuperPipe

Results from both venues will be combined for an overall team score. The primary outcome of the entire event will be to crown one of the six teams the X Games Global Champion. In addition, individual performances will be recognized with prize money and medals.

USA
Canada
Europe
South America
Asia
Australia

Venues: X Games events: The Alamodome, San Antonio, Texas
Winter X Games events: Whistler Blackcomb Mountain Resort, Canada

Telecast: 17 hours of original programming from May 17-24, 2003 on ESPN, ESPN2, and ABC’s Wide World of Sports. ESPN International will distribute coverage of the event worldwide.

Internet: www.expn.com provides results, original streaming video, athlete bios, spectator information, competition highlights, photos and more.

www.espneventmedia.com provides media results, releases, photos for editorial use and background information on all X Games events.

*Women’s Ski SuperPipe will have one athlete per world region.
