13 of the best Freestyle-MX riders from round the globe battle it out in Riesa, Germany!

The game was on last Saturday in eastern Germany at this years freestyle motocross season kick-off with the NIGHT of the JUMPs 3! Thirteen of the world's best riders converged on the German mecca of FMX to battle it out over the purse of 20.000,- Euro set for the evening. Included in this spectacular line-up were riders such as the Australian combo-master Dayne Kinnaird, Red Bull's own "Mad" Mike Jones from America and England's top performer Gary Taylor. All three were set to take the top position. Mike Jones had won the previous two years and was back to defend his honor.

The Qualifications:
The 6.000 strong crowd welcomed the riders with roaring ovations. The pyro show blew the roof off the stadium as the riders lined-up for the qualification round. The first to hit the dirt was the local hero Ringo Rehn who recently took the jump into the professional level after ending his 2002 season as best newcomer and IFMXF PRO/AM Amateur of the year. Ringo clearly had the lead with his local fan crowd and put on a clean run but didn't make it into the finals. Two of the three "evil3" crew, Kris Brock and Sean Vukovic from England, pounded the dirt pulling hard tricks and a clean run. Kris secured a deserved slot for the finals while his riding buddy Sean had to take the curtain and call it a night. Both Norwegian riders Oystein Kjorstad and Ailo Gaup (3rd at the IFMXF World Cup) put down a solid round. Fabian Bauersachs Germany's current best Freestyle rider rocked the venue with hard core tricks and secured a well deserved position for the final line-up later in the!
evening. Last to enter the qualifications were the 36 year old super star "Mad" Mike Jones (winner of the NIGHT of the JUMPs 1 & 2) and Dayne Kinnaird from Australia (2nd at the NIGHT of the JUMPs 2 and Winner of the IFMXF World Cup). Both riders were set to pull in the gold medal for the evening after the 1 point lead which landed Mike on the throne at last years event. Dayne had trouble on his first jump and landed to far in the flat. After a short break the judges gave Dayne another chance to kick it again. Dayne started the event with an injured tendon and wasn't in top form. After a few high scaled tricks mixed with an injured struggle, Dayne had to take the bow not making it into the finals later in the evening. Mike Jones shot onto the track and pounded out some killer no-hand landings and his famous hard core style securing 6th place and making it into the 6 strong final field of riders. Gary Taylor from England (3rd at the NIGHT of the JUMPS 2) was by far the best !

NIGHT of the JUMPS 3 Finals

The 6 finalists truly represented the best of what current Freestyle Motocross has to offer. The crowd was revving with anticipation and the riders were peaking their adrenalin for the last 2 minute run of the night. The first to enter was "Mad" Mike Jones from the states who pulled the most hard-core run of the evening with his signature "Kiss of Death" and "No-Hand - Landings" The crowd went crazy as Mike took the throne and waited for the next rider to take the stage. Next up was Jimmy Verburgh out of Belgium who pulled off a great double superman seatgrab, a cordova, and his fantastic signature trick the "sterilizer", but his run wasn't enough to put Mike off the throne. Next to hit the dirt was Kris Brock from England who clearly won a few points in the eyes of the crowd with his famous "Shoe Box" trick among other hard core high-flying Supermans and Hart Attacks, but it still couldn't pull Mike of the throne. Now it was time for the flying Viking from Norway to pull ou!
t on the track with the cleanest double superman seatgrabs of the evening, but Mike was still standing in the end. Two riders were left to battle it out. In came Germany's Fabian "FAB" Bauersachs (From team UPFORCE) and went straight to his first trick "Lazy Boy" followed by a great one hand superman seatgrab Indian air among a McMetz to no-hand landing! The crowd went wild, but Mike was still firmly planted on first position. The final rider for the night, Gary Taylor, was fixed on taking the lead and gave his best with an intense Kiss of Death, a few rock solids and kick-ass whip.
