The 9th of March will see the 1st Round of the Yamaha Thumper-X series hit El Cheringa Park, Carrum Downs for the first time. The talent packed field of Australia's best motocross racers will be pushing their big booming 4-Stroke bikes to their limit as they attempt to steal the crown from 2002's championship winner – Lee Ellis.
Riding for the newly formed Full Throttle Sports/Honda team, Lee has only recently recovered from an injury that saw him with a bruised lung and several cracked ribs.
Lee Ellis has this to say –
"With my injuries now completely healed and with a few warm up races under my belt, I am looking forward to defending my title".
Chasing Lee will be some of the best riders in the country. Riding for the Boost Mobile/Yamaha team will be Berwick’s Cameron Taylor. Also coming back from a shoulder injury, Cameron is considered one of the veterans of the sport at 28 years of age.
Hot from his 2nd place at the 2nd round of the Yamaha Australian Supercross Championships is Lee Ellis’s team mate – Troy Dorron. Troy has surprised a lot of people this year, with his lightening starts and blistering pace. Look for Troy at the pointy end of the field. Also joining these riders will be Cheyne Boyd, Lee Hogan, Steven Andrews and a host of other speed demons.
The Yamaha Thumper-X series is a 5 round series with events held across Victoria. The final round at Chesterfield Park, Scoresby will also host the Yamaha National ATV and Women's Championships. The ATVs racing around the track are far removed from the farm bikes usually associated with ATVs. These four-wheelers are purpose built racing machines, and their speed and agility is surprising!
With the Women’s series a new innovation in Australian motocross, the racing has been fast and furious, surprising many of the boys with their speed. These girls are seriously fast!
Also at each round will be the high flying freestyle demos. Featuring Team Full Throttle Sports/Honda’s Robbie Felli, Robbie will be performing his incredible back flips 30 feet in the air. As one of only a handful of riders in the world to complete this trick, this is an event not to be missed. Backing up Robbie will be freestyle performers such as Luke Urek, Jono Porter and Cameron Sinclair.
Off the track will be a comprehensive array of motorcycle trade stands to feast your eyes on. And if that isn’t enough (but wait, there’s more!) you can also save yourself a bundle at the massive accessories clearance sales. With leading brands like Fox, No Fear, Thor and O’Neal at up to 50off, don’t forget to bring your shopping trolley!
