I have always used a keyboard for any gaming, as I'm not what ya'd call a "******** gamer". The only games i have bought and have, in the last 5yrs are MCM2, Need For Speed: Underground and FarCry is my latest purchase....Half Life 2 is on the cards when the full version gets released, but only because i have a voucher that i scored with my VideoCard, to get it for free.
The only forseeable advantage I'd have from using a joystick for any of those games would be if i raced in MCM2, to take advantage of the pre-load feature,...but soon as i only Freestyle, i dont feel i need to fork out a few hundred for another controller when i can do fine with a keyboard.

I run the Microsoft Sidewinder Gamepad .
Feels better to me than a joy stick or keyboard ...

mungo, a joy stick gives u a wayyy smoother ride, and u can ride berms waaayyyyyy smoother, and even a game pad cant do that.... i got my pad for about 30 or 40, its sooo worth it if u can just set aside some, just start a change jar, its changes the whole expirience.... its so good ! and riding up to a ramp is soo easy, just having to do simple smooth adjustments its awesome, u can ride it sooo nice.. i recomend buying one :D

I've got keys!
Hey Mungo, have you got a Sony Playstation 1 or 2?
I've seen on ebay, USB converters. You plug your PS1 or 2 controller into the converter, and then plug it into a USB port on your computer.
Here's one on Ebay, I'm going to purchase one. They range from $6-$20. http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=11319&item=8129637498&rd=1

Hehe, i knew I'd cop a big offensive movement for the use of anything BUT a keyboard :p..as I've heard nothin but great things about em from everyone that's used one with MCM2 or any game for that matter....tell ya's what...after i get some new cables, better cooling, some more lights and some more RAM for my PC....I'll THINK about gettin' one :p...
I do have a PS1...the ORIGINAL Playstation, not this new fangled "size of a small pizza" "PS1" that actually came out AFTER the PS2 LOL...and yes, i do know you can get converters for those controlers, but have never felt comfortable usin them, especially when I'm on a PC...kinda, as Hook said, "changes the whole experience"...but for me it's kinda a worse experience, havin to learn something new, when i'm allready comfy ridin' usin keys...which I've used for 4yrs, so I've pretty much got my style dialled :)..
Anywho, IF i end up gettin a controller of some discription, I'll be sure to post up my experience and thoughts :smoker2:

I use my much loved Sidewinder Joystick. It's smooth as hell and overall increases the gaming expirience. :D I think so anyway.

Haha, I'm familiar...not sayin i was all that good....havin to use keys and all... = no preload, so many a keyboard was broken, springs lost, keys missplaced....i even lost the ball for my mouse once when it made a maiden voyage across my room to have a hard and fast meeting with my wall.....Aaaaaah freestyle....so tranquil, and fancy free :p...i for one, dont miss competitive racing, i do still throw a lap or two every now and then to keep my timing up, which helps for freestyle aswel, having to judge gaps and twat not..or is that just me :p...Playstation controllers also copped a floggin'....anyone use to bite em?....no?...guess that was just me too HAHA

Logitech Wingman Force 3D and I love it.. I've tried hard to break it but it keeps bouncing back.. Not like in my old Amiga days when they broke every second week..
