IFMA Freestyle Motocross "Pilots" Return to Cleveland
AURORA, Ill., After sanctioning more than 30 freestyle motocross events in the past year, the International Freestyle Motocross Association (IFMA) returns to Cleveland, to put on the World's best freestyle motocross (FMX) competition. This weekend's events at the Gund Arena take place on Friday and Saturday, February 14-15th starting at 8:00 p.m. Last year at the Gund Arena "The Cowboy" Kenny Bartram swept the Friday night competition and Nate Adams stole Saturday's victory on their way to the 2002 IFMA Championship.
This year the IFMA invites back the second overall in 2003 IFMA points, Adam Jones; 2000 Rookie of the year, Nate Adams; 2002 IFMA Points Champion Runner-up, Drake McElroy; and more to headline a cast of IFMA Freestyle Motocross 'pilots' who will showcase their talents in front of the Gund Arena crowd. Adam Jones, second overall in 2003 IFMA points, has been pushing the envelope of what is possible on a 2001 KX 250cc dirt bike. The 2002 IFMA Points Champion Runner-up, Drake McElroy, will challenge Nate "The Destroyer" Adams, IFMA's 2000 Rookie of the Year and Back-Flip Specialist, to a no-holds-barred FMX competition. Rounding out the list of invited riders includes: Beau Bamburg, 2002 IFMA Rookie of the year, and Doug Parsons, 2002 Gravity Games and X-Games Competitor.
The floor of Gund Arena will be transformed into a customized freestyle motocross track complete with three-four take-off and landing ramps made out of more than 150 truck loads of dirt.
Freestyle Motocross has received enormous international popularity from NBC's airing of both the "Gravity Games" and the "Vans Triple Crown of Freestyle Motocross" televised programs, while the IFMA has continued to build IFMA Freestyle Motocross into the world's largest series of Freestyle Motocross events, reaching thirty different events in 2002.
