Last Saturday, February 8, saw an excellent nights racing for a full house crowd at Avalon Speedway. On the most demanding track yet seen in Australian Supercross history, Jay Marmont and Troy Carroll won the Pro-Open and Pro-Lite classes respectively.

Located next to the Avalon Airfield, where the F-18 hornets were in practise for the annual air-show, the huge and spectacular track had the two wheels boys competing for air space. As the first national level event to be run by Full Throttle Sports, the bumper crowd of 8,000 spectators enjoyed a cool night of action packed racing and freestyle demonstrations.

Boost Mobile/Yamaha's Troy Carroll dominated his races with 3 from 3 wins
Boost Mobile/Yamaha's Troy Carroll dominated the Pro-Lites class winning each of the 3 finals, however even Troy had a fight on his hands in the second final. Leading comfortably early in the race, Troy made a small mistake in a slow corner that saw Full Throttle Sports/Honda's Jye Harvey take over the lead, however Jye himself made a mistake moments later, handing the lead back to Troy.

The final results for the Pro-Lites 125cc class:
1st Troy Carroll
2nd Daniel McCoy
3rd Jye Harvey

Championship points after round 2-
1st Jay Marmont 72pts
2nd Troy Dorron 69pts
3rd Lee Hogan 51pts
4th Danny Ham 47pts
5th Shane Metcalfe 41pts
6th Craig Carmichael 30pts
7th Paul Broomfield 19pts
8th Cameron Taylor 17pts
9th Mick Cook 14pts
10th Nathan Crawford 11pts

The Pro-Open class saw nail biting action in each of the three finals between Motorex/KTM's Jay Marmont, Full Throttle Sports/Honda's Troy Dorron and O'Neal/Honda's Shane Metcalfe. However it was not until the closing stages of the last race of the night that we saw the most spectacular moment of the night.

Geelong local Troy Dorron, flies high above the Avalon track on his Full Throttle Sports/Honda
Geelong local Troy Dorron, believing he had a large lead began to cruise towards the chequered flag only to be taken by surprise by Jay Marmont on the second to last straight. However as Jay attempted to put a pass on Troy, he clipped a hay bail sending him out of control and at full speed towards a 40ft double-jump. As Jay launched into the air he was bucked from his machine leaving both he and his bike to cart wheeled through the air.

To everyone's surprise, Jay jumped to his feet, climbed aboard his bent machine and still managed to finish 2nd to a standing ovation.

Unfortunately during the second final, Round 1 winner Shane Metcalfe fell awkwardly and was unable to race for the rest of the night. With the results of the 3 finals totalled, NSW's Jay Marmont was awarded his first Australian Supercross round win.
