WINTER X GAMES VII TECHNOLOGY HIGHLIGHTS
- FlyCam: This camera, which is mounted more than 20 feet above the ground, will travel over two different spans of cable to capture moving overhead views of the action. A highlight will be complete top-to-bottom course coverage of the "X" racing events (Snowboarder X, Skier X, HillCross, UltraCross).
- SnowmobileCam: Miniature in-sled cameras will be mounted on the hoods of the snowmobiles to provide shots of the athletes as they race through the course.
- FollowCam: ESPN will utilize FollowCams for SuperPipe and Slopestyle disciplines in Snowboard and Ski. Expert skiers, who are also trained camera operators, follow the competitors as they complete a run, providing an ideal tracking shot of the athletes. The camera is mounted on a rack system carried at waist level by the operator, who skis at speeds of up to 40 miles per hour. This year, digital RF technology will allow for potential FollowCam live shots.
