Friday Night Recap
Kenny Bartram takes his 6th win in seven finals here in Michigan tonight. It was a close call though because Bartram was followed by #1 qualifier Dustin Miller. Miller hit all of his jumps well, and several riders thought he may have won. But in the end, the judges felt Kenny’s run was worth two tenths more than Miler’s. Both riders stepped up with Base Jumps in their final run after watching Mike Jones pull one off earlier. Amazingly this was the first time Jones has ever done the trick (cliff-hanger to no-handed landed without checking the bars). Derek Burlew sat in the Hot Seat up until the final two riders but had to relinquish it. Jonesy finished a season best 4th after a good final run. Brian Foster had the best final run I have seen him pull in a final and finished fifth. Look for big things from Bubs in the future. He is learning real fast. Ronnie Renner was sixth after having one of those nights. What can you say, everyone has them. Seventh was Matt Buyten. He missed one trick at the end and it must have cost him dearly. I think the judges may have been a little harsh. But they are the judges and I am not. Jeff Tilton finished eighth after getting a little lost in his run. He was searching for more jumps to do, but the mind wouldn’t help him. Floyd is outa here. Don’t make me go to Canada Lurch and Jannice!
Saturday Recap
Kenny Bartram sweeps the Detroit weekend. He won his second event in two nights here at the Palace. He changed up his first round run and only qualified in third, but it made no difference. His final run went very well. Ronnie Renner stepped up after having a bad night last night, finishing three tenths behind Kenny’s winning score of 93.3. Matt Buyten sat in the Hot Seat for a while with a 92.7 score which tied the highest qualifying mark of Dustin Miller. He said it was probably the best two minute run he has ever done. Mike Jones finished fourth for the second night in a row and the crowd thought he did much better than the score (92.0) reflected. He can see that he needed to pick up his program and he did so this weekend. He has been practicing with Kenny during the week. Derek Burlew finished fifth after catching his feet on the bars several times. He is riding with new boots, and I don’t think they are broken in good enough yet. Bubs finished in the sixth spot after another good run tonight, and Miller in seventh. He had the pressure on and it looked as though he was on his way to possibly beating Kenny until he over-ran the berm a couple of times. The last one cost him big. Jeff Winstead wasn’t expecting to make the final but he did. He didn’t really have a two-minute run put together for the final, but he was happy with the bigger paycheck. This is Robbie saying adios for a while; Adam will do well in my absence. HI HO HI HO.h OFF TO NBC I GO!
