The Asian X Games V presented by Toyota kicked off its first day of competition with the bicycle stunt flatland competition, as well as an Asian X Games first - the high-flying stunts of Moto X.

Bicycle Stunt had a full day of flatland competition as twenty-seven riders took to the park course today hoping to make the cut. With only 10 spots open for the final, the pressure was on the competitors who stepped up for the preliminary round in the early afternoon. Yosuke Uno of Japan led the pack through both runs with Malaysia’s Muhammad Rezda Rahman and Australia's Simon O'Brien rounding out the top three as they moved on to the final.

As the sun set on the packed stands, the park course was filled with athletes cheering on their fellow bike riders. Malaysia was well represented with three riders making it to the final, while Japan made up more than half of the finalists with six. But the night belonged to the lone Australian, Simon O’Brien, who put on two flawless performances, surpassing his leaders and taking the gold. Japanese riders Kotara Tanaka and Ryoji Yamamoto moved up the ranks to take silver and bronze respectively.

On the other side of the KLCC site, American pro-riders Chuck Carothers, Jake Windham, Jeremy Carter and Doug Parsons entertained a packed house at the Asian X Games interactive village. Passing cars stopped and the fans screamed as the Moto X pros took to the ramps and put on a high-flying demo that included tricks called the heart attack, superman seat grab and no-footed can-can. With the spectators cheering their support, all four athletes got on the mike to say how honoured they were to demonstrate their sport in Malaysia for the first time.

The Asian X Games IV presented by Toyota continues to run on through Sunday. The event is open to the public from 2.00pm on Friday (Jan 24) and from 11.00am on Saturday and Sunday (Jan 25-26). Admission is free.
