hey guys.
Just got my 250 license and sold my yz250. So... i want a road bike and a newer motocross bike. I was thinking getting a ktm 250exc would be a win win because i can go hit up any track whenever i want when im cruising home from work or whatever, but i was wandering how they handle getting some air, i heard they have alot softer suspension? any thoughts? anyone have an idea what are some things to change on it to get it as good as an sx but still road legal?
Thanks

aslong as ur not trying to do supercross or freestyle jumps the suspension should be able to handle jumping

Ive ridden the 2011 bike, it feels fine like suspension feels the same as any 250f and 150sx and that.. LIke cooky monster sed, you'd only notice things if you tried to hit ramps.

The gearbox is different to meet ADR standards, but I don't see it being a problem if you got the suspension set up for mx. Would handle the tracks just like an mx bike with slightly different gearing and little more weight cause of the addons.

how much riding u going to do on the road ? cause there not made to ride on the road every day be alright if it's only 10 to 20 ks. if u got suspension done which u should in any bike it will be right and just keep on top of maintenance tight bolts, check valve clearance, keep air box and filter clean, make sure u do your oil and filter don't let it go black then there a sick bike go for it

yer that will be fine best thing to do aswell is buy a torque wrench for tightening all the bolts cause alot of people over tighten and it strips and cracks the thread or part in your manual it will give u torque specs u don't have to go too nuts but just helps

Most Road registrable "Enduro" bikes are pretty good from the box. The European manufacturers lead the pack with their Road going enduro rockets in my opinion. KTM, Husky, Gas Gas & TM all seem to get a good rap with minor complaints. All up to the individual and their choice really.
I own a 06 Husky WR250. After a lil suspension, engine and exhaust work it was a capable Club day Motocrosser and I mainly raced it in 4 hr Enduro,Cross country and pony express machine. Pretty much I can throw anything at it and it handles it well.
Most differences from a MX to the E bikes is as follows.
Wider ratio gear box. Mainly the last few gears are a tad taller for higher speeds.
Softer suspension. Mainly in the spring rates are a few stages softer for soaking up tree roots and blasting up snotty hills. But after re-spring and re-valve will make it race ready to hitting ramps and MX track hits no worries.
Exhaust system. Alot quieter! Obviously for ADR's. Fitted with a aftermarket system it will liven it up.
Tyres. Usually fitted with Semi-road going tyres. Bin them, chuck some good MX tyres on.
Ignition and CDI, Depending on the model can be a little de-tuned for a smoother power spread, but nothing exhaust, jetting and porting work can sort out.
Electric start. Battery, lights and speed/ instrument cluster. Just adds to the weight of it. Most of which can be stripped.
But all in all, Just shop around there are plenty of to choose out there. 2 and 4 smokes. All capable machines if your willing to to spend some money on developing it into what you want to use it for.

My brother bought a ECX250 for the same reason. He wanted to replace his MX bike and just have one "do it all bike". He found that it suited him better to go back to two bikes because of the fact that they need to be setup so differently in regards to suspension and gearing. But he was riding very tight bush and fast rough MX.

there is a reason we dont all have this set up, a mx'er is pure preformance, whilst a enduro is a comprimise of a few things... until you start pushing the limiter, you'll be sweet. Personally i wouldnt take one off a ramp on even a semi-regular basis, nor mx it regularly. In saying that, there are guys in my local club who beat my 250f on enduro machines...
Also i think the klx450r is definatly worth a look for you.. really under rated bike. And too prove it dirt action have built one up... which was in my local area, and was very impressive..

i did buy one, had it for a year now, insane bike... ended up doing a gearbox so i put sx gears in it, a 300 kit ontop, pro circuit exhaust, got it jetted properly, supsension done, stripped the lights and extras off... most fastest and fun dirt bike i have ever riden!
