Hey,
I was just wondering how you guys bent the metal for your ramps. I've made a ramp out of wood, but now I want to make a metal one, and I'm not sure How to bend the metal. I know some people say to cut notches into the metal, but I didn't know if that was the only way or what.
Thanks

hey the notch thing is probably the cheapest way and dont worry about it making the ramp weaker, if you do it right it will be just as strong if not stronger

i used the bending guide off www.fmxramps.com, but basically you just make a series of cuts 3/4 of the way through the tube most of the way down the steel your using, then you simply just bend the cuts closed ( i just stuck one end up on something fairly high and stood on it and bounced gently and it bend with ease) then you just weld up the cuts. but check out that site it tells you exactly where to make the cuts.:)

but remember the mesurements on fmxramps.com are for a rev.1 ramp but for an aussie comp ramp i think u would just have 2 cut in equal spots along the 9.1m radius because the curve is constant

i always wondered is it just the gap that the blade makes when u cut the metal to bend it or so u gotta take a chunk out, it seemed to me that if u added all those blade widths that it wouldnt bend enough, o yeah do you just use like a sawz all (or hack saw) or so you use like a grinder disk chop saw or somthing thanks.

I just used a sawz all, and just the width of the blade worked.

yeh just the blade width, and the blade should be about as thick as a hacksaw blade, i used a metal band saw to make my cuts, i'm not exactly positive but if you only have a wide blade to do it with and cant be bothered doing it with a hack saw then you'd probably just have to make less cuts BUT, having said that i was muckin around with a bit of scrap steel and about 7 cuts(of a wide blade) almost had the steel doing a U shape lol and now that i think about it, the wider the cut is the more bumpy it will be and the transition will become unsmooth, so after all that GO THE HACK SAW lol.

Yeah, here's a pic. Basically, I just drew my ramp on a piece of graphing paper, and then, figured out the angles approx. every 2 feet. Then I took and cut these angles into my 2x4's, and bought a couple of 2x2 peices and ran them along the outside of the 2x4's.
Anyways, here's a pic, I don't know if you can see all that from the pic, but here you go.
