The Australian Motocross Championship continues around the country like a travelling circus, this last weekend was round four in the series and round two for the women’s class held in South Australia’s Capital Adelaide. It was an easy two hour flight from Sydney with my new team manager, Peter McIntyre and fellow Jim Beam team rider Chloe Biffin. After viewing the Gilman track on Saturdays arrival I was very impressed with a course full of man made jumps! The ground was rather soft and wet which would make for tough and technical racing the next day. I was looking forward to it.

Sunday dawned beautiful and sunny but there was still a cold breeze about. The pro lites class practice was up first which I was thankful for as the carved some nice rutted tracks through the mud to make it easier for us girls. It was another good turnout for the ladies class, great to see so many girls making an effort to travel the long distances. Chloe’s dad had our bikes all prepped and ready to go, I was very impressed with my brand new Yamaha YZ250F thanks to Cheryl at Yamaha Australia and Peter from Jim Beam Racing for getting together in support of my racing here in Australia and providing me with more than I could have asked for. I used practice to run the new bike in, get comfortable on the jumps and find some good lines for racing.

First race I clicked first gear for the start without really thinking which wasn’t the best thing but with some late breaking and out jumping I was in front by the second corner. The track had now formed some massive ruts but was considerably dryer than practice. I pulled a nice gap of 1min 23sec by the race end and had a great time out there especially on the jumps. I felt really good at the end of the 18min race and my Smith goggles where still fairly clean!

Deciding to start in second gear my Jim Beam Yamaha hooked up on its Maxxis tyres putting me to a great start out front, I pulled away from the pack fairly quickly and settled into a comfortable pace. Large breaking bumps had formed by this time making it fairly difficult but it was just a matter of finding some smooth fast lines and playing it safe as there was still some boggy patches around the track. This time I only managed a 43sec lead on Lisa Erwin in second place but rode within my boundaries and felt really comfortable in my YZF.

It was a successful day for both Yamaha teams with CDR riders Darryll King and Cameron Taylor each winning their classes as well as a clean sweep for myself. I’m currently sitting in second place for the overall championship, only two points behind first place with two rounds to go, next weekend we head to Conondale in Queensland.

I really want to mostly thank all the people who are believing in me, your encouragement is pushing me to be the best I can for myself and for my sponsors I feel privileged to be out there representing your products. Without Yamaha’s Jim Beam Racing team support I would not have had an awesome bike to ride or an awesome team to ride for.
