First of all, sorry if there is already a topic about that, but I can't find it.
I m riding a KTM exc-f 350, for something more than a year, I v raced few times enduro and scramble and all i can do for jumping is tables, singles and now i m learning doubles. Probably i m not using the correct terms, but hopefully, you get an idea of what i m (not) doing.
It's long time now that i m thinking of starting freestyle MX, but i have none here to ask about it.
I know i need a different bike, so any suggestions? Also, i v heard that i need different tires than the ones on MX or supermoto, is that true? If yes, what should i look for? Would a mini bike be a solution? I m 1.75cm, if high would be a factor to decide.
Next thing is... before start breaking my bones, what should i try practising? Long jumps? High jumps? No footers? No handers? Any info/suggestions/etc more than welcome ^_^
And finally... i m sure there are many other important things that i don't know and I don't even know that I should ask about them. ANY help or advice is needed here :D
that's all for now ^_^

i would buy the book: THE FREERIDERMX ULTIMATE GUIDE TO FREESTYLE by Steve Sommerfeld. It's got some useful tips about bikes, gear, ramp and dirt jumps and takes you through a few tricks plus heaps of the cool stuff as well. definately worth buying and should be available at newsagents. Another thing I did when i first started was joined the local freestyle club (the wsm for me as i'm in tassie) and they helped out heaps. i don't know which club would be near you but they can probably help with encouragement, advice and speed checks, if they're good fellas, and thats definately worth having.

Motocross background helps a lot but I did opposite went freestyle then started doing motocross. Just make sure your jumping a decent ramp aussie comp would be best not a home job dodgy ramp and push it into a downramp as close as possible and jump the ramp softly and you will realise its easier then you think. Then start doing 1 handers and no footers etc.. try touch your hand onto your helmet then back on the handlebars good luck

Thnx for the replies ^_^
I ll try to get the book from the internet, but FMX club does not exist in my country. I think in total there must be around 3 riders. Maybe less. But I ll try contact them, when I ll be ok with the very basics :)

aw shit GIRL didnt realize you were from aus, yeah its gonna be hard then if you dont have many riders to push you and pump you up lol, but yeah stick at it boss and just watch guides and stuff on youtube i guess that will help....but other then that build jumps and hit them would be my best advice aye lol

Hopefully i ll find out what type of bike i need, just to start trying... Do i NEED a mini bike or any 125 MX would do? Coz definitely, my KTM is too heavy for this type of jumping.
+ yes, youtube will be helpful but i also hope to find lot of information and tips in here, it's a really nice forum!

I'd be looking at a 250F if I were you.
Any Japanese model 2004+ is a good place to start.
They are easy to ride, jump and handle.

Just get bored and try new stuff. One hander, One footer, No hander, No footer, Nothings and then just change it up a bit, Try Can Cans and small Nac Nac's Just keep trying new things. Your not trying out for X games so you dont have to push yourself to the point your scared of things until your ready. Just get to know what your bike will do after it leaves the lip.
Have fun :)
