ok the chain tensioner bolt on the brake side on my 99 cr250r is frozen into the swing arm, and i dont know how to fix it. any way i can get it out with out drilling it out and tapping it would be nice since i dont know how to do that well enough and dont want to spend the money.

the guy that does the work on my bike will no longer be doing the work on my bike because when he discovered this and couldnt get the stock size chain, 114 link, on he put on a 116 link chain and since that is so loose i have broken 2 master links and ruined a chain, not to mention when i took the chain off since i broke the chain i noticed my rear sproket was all chewed up and my front sproket had lost 3 teeth since last weekend. his exact words when he told me about the problem where, "The bolt is seized and the only way i can get it out is to drill it out and tap it but that is such a *****, so i just put on a 116 link chain" and i asked, "that cant be good for it?" and he answered, "no it will be fine"

o and the first master link i had snap happened when i was in first place in a race, talk about being pist

i think if its fully seized the only way you will be a ble to get it out is by drilling it and using easy outs, or welding a bit of steel to the head of it and bashing it around with a hammer, i have the same problems ive fixed one the other one is the screw in the front brake fluid reservoirwhich i havent done yet. the one ive fixed was the triple clamp bolt and it was in so tight i snapped an easy out inside the bolt.

i klnow it might sound stupid and obvious but try a bit of cat piss on it should loosen and desieze it a bit.

a lot of people make that mistake. triple clamp bolts do not need to be all that tight.

yeah. go buy yourself some easy outs. you should be able to get it out. soak the bolt in CRC or something.

yeah, as robbo66 asid, soak it in wd40 crc shit.

then try undo it.

get a few bang of the hammer on it.

then try undo it.

heat it up, as it is aluminium it will expand, use a blow torch or somthing silimar, also give it a tap at the same time, and the alloy shoudl expand a fair bit allowing ya to undo it.

then try undo it.

what probably happened is u got that white rust crap inside the thread of the swingarm.

when ya get it out buy a new bolt.

well i have heated it up and no luck and i have been wd40in it for about 3 weeks and still no luck, but this friday im gonna go to my dads house and we're gonna try and get it out, and if we can't were gonna take the swing arm to a dealer to see what they say.

They sell these little drill bits at any hardware store that goes on the end of your drill that goes in any stripped or stuck screw/bolt and it will drill in the bolt and then you put the drill in reverse and it takes the thing right out. I have a big pack of all different sized ones and they are cheap as hell, only a couple bucks.

i guess you could weld something to the end of it and try twist it off that way.

well we got it to move about 2 or three turns in or out then the bolt broke off. so we brought it to a dealer and they mutilated it and it looked seriously fu*ked. so we drilled it out, tapped it, and put in what is called a helicoil. but then that broke off in the swing arm and it was about 1 am and i was goin to the track the next day so we just manually straightened the tire and cranked down the axle nut and that worked for a day.

now we are gonna drill all of the steel and any metal other then aluminum out of it and bring it to a welder. and were just gonna have him put a plug weld in it to seal it up then redrill it and retap it and hopefully that will work

Best decision u made in a long time... ;)

Also another cause of chewed and snapped sprokets and teeth is your back sproket isnt lined up with ya front sproket, witch causes ya chain to rub on the sides of both sprokets causing the ware, so make sure u get the sprokets lined up as best u can before tightening the chain tensioners and wheel up!

Oh and remember...

If it moves when it shouldnt, use duck tape. If it doesnt move when it should, read this post hehehe :D

well for now casue i need to get my bike running for the race my dad and i tightened the one side with the chain tensioner to where it should be and he just pulled the tire back on the other side so it was lined up and i tightened down the axle nut and that worked for the race weekend. and one question about doing that, can it hurt anything?

depends on where ya go riding, for example if ya belting around the bush and u only got one chain tensioner, u might hit a rut or something and cos u only have only got one chain tensoner holding one side, the other side might move foward or back, causing ya wheel not to come off, but move left or right so it it wont be straight... get what im talking about...??

yea, im gonna take the swing arm in soon, that was just for race weekend. it did move once but after every time i went out on the track i checked it and the one time it did do that i just pullled it back again

yeah, but like one case on a landing or something it might move and it could be all over!

i havent had a real problem yet, but i havent rode in 2 weeks either (tore a ligament in my shoulder), but when i do back to riding if i dont have it fixed right im gonna just cut out a little chunk of wood and jam it in there so it can be pushed forward.
think that will work?

i donno man, i can only say try it and see how it goes. Just remember ure racing so i wouldnt rely on a bit of wood keeping ya bike together! have u taken it to a proper motie store like honda or yamaha (or what ever u ride) they might have a quick fix for it too?

mulisha_mike

well i just found out today i wont be racing. doctorsaid i wont be able to ride till late agust at the earliest, one wrong landing can really screw shit up

Yammi_man
28th July 2004, 03:39 PM
if its that bad u might need to drill it out... good luck with that... and i would leave it as your very last option too!

mulisha_mike

well there are a few tools out there that might work. if its not totaly round there is somting called Gator grip (pic below) that could maybe help ya. other words i would try pliers, vice grip or maybe hammering a little smaller socket on it. but if you do get it out dont put it back in, replace it
