I heard it's only if you use the wrong kind of paint. Certain paints chemically react with the helmet and weaken it, so you have to use the right stuff. Unfortunately, I can't tell you what that is sorry.

well as most helmets are using a fiberglass of sorts you will safe to use a two pack as that is fine and quite similar to that of a gel coat but the paint that would impact on the helmets integrity is an enamel paint but if you stick to any thing that is at least acrylic base should be fine talk to a panel shop and ask how they prep frp stuff (fiber reinforced products) i think you may need a specific undercoat is all but that should only be effected if you touch the actual glass and not the painted surface of the helmet

psssssh. you know what i did? i got your basic flat black heat paint. completely sprayed my helmet without careing. then put masking tape along the bottom of it. and drew my name in it. and carved it out. then sprayed gunmetal grey in the stencil. waited for it to dry. it was professional looking. and it only cost me 9 bucks. plus i have a sh1t load of paint left over. for when it scratch's i can do it again. without wasting alot of money.
( and personally. about the weaking your helmet thing, it would take a hell of a fall to make your helmet explode. so just go for it. and be unique. its what i did :) )

it can wreak your helmet. fibreglass does react with types of materials. it doesnt mean its going to blow up, it means it will weaken, and deteriorate.

this is how my helmet turned out. the red under is supposed to be there. when you look at my helmet up close it looks like this lava sh1t. its red underneath with flat black over it and you can still see the red under it. it so sick. and its gun metal grey in my last name that is scribed on it. and if you look close you can see my numbers 387. above my last name. and it may look like a sh1tty job of painting. but its just from when i fall i get scratch's. heh. nobodies perfect right? lol :o

Whoever told you that told you a big lie. It won't hurt it. Sand your helmet down nice and smooth, get you some Auto Air paint from Colorex and lay down either a white or black base coat if your painting the whole thing first and then throw down your paint. On the base coat it all depends.... if you wan't the helmet a lighter color then use a white or light grey base coat, if darker color then use dark grey or black base coat.
Hope this helps you some man. If you got anymore questions then just ask and I will help you as much as I can.

haha, alot of people ask that. i think it looks sick. but i had to file them down because they kept on stabing people and when i would do stuff like the coffin. it would stab my seat and sometimes get alittle caught up. hahah, but its pretty cool. and i havent seen anyone else do it. so i thought. heh why not? i thought about doing it in my chest protector should pad things, but then i thought if i fell. i would die and slit my own throat or something. plus everyone would think i was just another mulisha wannabe.
