I really dunno why i havent done this earlier, what with such a controversial issue and all.
Anywho, this is an in-depth, step by agonising step of just how to resize pics for posting in these forums. So instead of myself or anyone else that may feel the need to answer the ongoing question of "i dont know how....can you tell me how to resize pics", you can now just refer them to this simple link and tell em to have a good read :).
This guide is only done for 2 programs. 1. the most widely used editing program in the free world...Photoshop, and 2, if in the instance the reader does not own Photoshop, the other basic program everyone that uses Windows has,....Paint.
1) Photoshop: Load Photoshop, click on "File" in the top menu, and then "open", locate your pic(s) you want resized, and open them into Photoshop. Once the pic(s) are loaded into photohop, click on "Image" in the top menu bar, and then on "Image Size". This will open a new little window in Photoshop. You will notice that there is a "Height" and "width" Now, width is the main thing you have to worry about.
The average users screen resolution is 800 x 600, so that is what we have decided to mould the appropriate pic size around. Now in that window, make sure the "Constrain to proportions" and "Resample Image" boxes at the bottom are both ticked, and change the Width number to 800 and then you will notice the height number will change acordingly with that, to insure your pic doesn't just adjust the width and leave the height the same, and therfor distort. :)
Once you have done that, click "Ok" and you will notice that the pic has shrunk. Then just click "File" in the top menu again and choose "Save As", choose a location on your Harddisk and a name for your pic and click "Save"...Your pic is now resized and ready for upload into the forums :smoker2:
2) Paint: Load Paint, click on "File" in the top menu, and then "open", locate your pic you want resized, (Only one pic per time is permitted in Paint) and open it into Paint. Once the pic is loaded into paint, click on "Image" in the top menu bar and then on "Stretch/Skew". This will open a new little window in Paint. You will notice that there is a "Horizontal" and "Vertical" adjustment for both "Stretch" AND "Skew, however, unlike Photoshop, because Paint is just a basic program, it will only allow you to adjust the measurements by percentage. DO NOT touch the "SKew" section of that window. ONLY adjust the "Horizontal" and Vertical in the "STRETCH" section.
You can start with a high percentage, such as 80% of the original size and keep going down in those incramints untill the desired size is reached. (Make sure you make both the "Horizontal" AND "Vertical" percentages the same, or the pic will distort.)
To check the actual pixel size of your pic, click on "Image" in the top menu and then on "Attributes, this will show you an actual pixel size for your pic. DO NOT change those numbers, as this will result in a cropping function and not resizing the entire pic, it is just for reference. Now as stated above, repeat the step of adjusting the pic size by 80% and refering back to the "Attributes" Window as to just how big the pic is. Once you achieve a number in the Width" box of the "Attributes" window that is 800 or smaller, then it is ready for posting.
Now just click "File" again in the top menu and click "Save As", choose a location and file name and click "Save". Also make sure the output compression ("file extension" or "Save As Type) is in JPG/JPEG format, as bitmaps (BMP's) do not show up in the forums, they upload as a download link instead of displaying the pic.
Well, that's about the most detailed explination of how to resize pics i think I could possibly do. Hope it all makes sence and is easy to follow. Looking forward to seeing the results in a heap of cool pics
