Hmmmm that doesn't look like a very good piece of pie. I think what I'd be doin is grabbin the WD40 and a rag and cleaning that whole area right out, it does look rather rusty, then riding again and check what's going on with it. Because at the moment I can't really tell if there's oil or just moisture in there with the rust and dirt and stuff. So clean it out then go again and recheck, if there's oil in there take it to the shop and get them to look at it. I dunno what sorta bike you got or if that hole is supposed to be there but if anything's getting in/out of that cover the gasket needs to be replaced anyway.

its a 96 cr125. that is under the magneto and it has a plastic cover so there is no gasket. i wont have time to clean it until wednesday probably so ill chuck some pics up then.

I got an '00 CR250 and it's got a plastic magneto cover also and still has a gasket so perhaps that's part of the problem right there... But yeah let us know how ya get on when ya clean it and that.

very messy....but id say the oil leak might be coming from the seal on the clutch actuating arm (where the clutch cable goes to)

The oil isnt supposed to be there. does it smell like dirty gear box oil, or pre-mix oil?
eitherway, a type of seal in your motor is blown.
start you bike up, warm it up, then let it idle. then put your finger over the black hose that comes off the motor casing, and down through the suspension linkages and stuff.
if you can feel it sucking or blowing air through there, then your crank seals are buggered!

You could alway try putting High temp silicone over it to cover the hole.

My old 99 cr125 was the same. i believe the exact same bottom end gear box etc as the 96. the hole is a drain from a chamber in below the gear box, it has no oil or anything else in this chamber at all. When you wash the bike that area gets a little moisture and condensation type thing and if not oiled and aired out, it goes like in your photo. i used to drop the cover off after a wash and clean it up a bit and spray some RP7 type thing. Permanent fix is buy the factory style alloy cover as on later models 01 02 onwards i think. hope this answers your questions, let me know if it's still a little confusing.
