well this is the story. i bought my 96 cr125 off a "motorbike mechanic" who u woulkd thikn no's his shit. how wrong was i. the ****head told me he put brand new piston kit in and was only jstu finished running it in. so i get it home and get about 8 decent hours from it then lost all compression. so off with the bore to my surprise i find 5 big HOLES in the walls. anyway the holes were not fresh so the numbnutted **** has put a new poiston in an old blown up cylinder. after all fighting with him i get nothing and have to pay the $600 to fix it myself. this was around 3months ago. the cylinder has been gettin fixed for around 2months now and wen i finally got it back i was told the reed valaves are screwed and so r the power valve bearings. so more fircking waiting because so dumbass screwed me over. im starting to get really angry at the guy i bought it from. does any1 thinki i should give him a friendly little call and let him no all the shit that has happened?

Ya dont get any sort of warranty from dealerships. Even new bikes only have a few months on em, excpet KTM, i think they have 1yr. If by some chance you DO find a dealership that does warranty on second hand bikes, as i did, you still have to pay for it. But it is extremely rare to find a dealership that will give you any sort of warranty on second hand bikes.

yeh mm45. i am like an hour away from suncoast kwaka where u got your 2fiddy. there are always nce secong hand bike there. i would pay for a waraanty if they had it there still.

Yeah, well mine is a 2year one, and mines still covered, so i can guarantee they still have warranty's there. Mine was $500 for 2yrs, the 3yr one was $800, so they're not exactly what ya'd call cheap, but as you now well now...they're MORE than worth the money, especially with second hand bikes.
NorthCoast Kawasaki is actually a Roadbike dealership, so they dont tend to have too many offroad bikes at all. when i was there, they only had 3 offroaders, my 01 YZ250, a 00 YZ250 and an 01 CR250, that was it in the whole joint, i was just lucky that one of those was the perfect bike i was after. So if they have any MX'rs there, i highly reccomend them, they're very friendly and are more than welcome to spend the time to negotiate with you. He's moved into another area of the shop now, but if ya go, ask for Jon, he's the bloke that served me :) Top bloke

yeh mm45. i often go to the coaast and wen im there pop over for a look at northcoast. sumtimes they have heaps of dirtbikex and others there is basically nothing like u said. i would pay $500 for 2yrs. wat doies that warrnaty cover? like if u blow ur engine or seize it or sumthing? i heard with the new bikes the warranty only covers stuff like if the piston goes through the barrel and things like that.

My warranty is a parts AND labour warranty, which is great, cause labour is where they get ya. Mine covers all the major sections of the bike:
Engine
Electrical
Cooling &
Suspension
(There may be another section, i couldn't be buggered lookin for my warranty booklet)
With a total claimable amount of $4000, which is bloody great concidering i only paid $400 over that for the bike itself. The only thing I have to do to maintain my warranty is get it serviced by a registered dealership every 6 months, which doesn't cost me anything because 3 of the Mungo Crew work at the local dealership, so i just slip it in there and get em to give it a goin over ;). Once it's serviced, the dealership stamps your warranty booklet and you rip out one half of the service stamp and send it back to the warranty mob to prove you did get it serviced by a registered dealer, and alls good. Northcoast are actually good enough to send me out warnings telling me my bike is due for another service :). Then if I'm ridin around and the CDI shits itself or the engine seizes or the radiator get a leak, shit like that, it's covered. And with second hand bikes, that is always good to know in the back of ya mind that if shit does go awry, that it's not gunna cost ya an arm and a leg to get it fixed. Even though my bike was basically brand new, not a scratch on it, and looked like it had just rolled outta the showroom, i wasn't taken any risks, cause i know what bikes can be like, especially second hand ones. It's one thing for bikes to "look" clean and sweet, it's quite another to know what the mechanics are like. Wish ya all the luck in the future with that ride ya got, and any bikes ya get in the future man

If somebody offers a warranty for a dirtbike they are stupid. And just as stupid to expect one. New or used for that matter. Sorry team_fmf_honda, but dirtbikes get trashed and these things happen. Hopefully you will know a bit more about bikes next time

i have been told by a dealer you dont get a warenty with race bikes ??? new or used and i have had mine re built 2 times in the last 5 years and i have to fork out over a grand each time
Mungoman45

Yes, you have been told by "A" dealer....not all dealerships are the same. "Most" dealerships wont have warranty's available. I was just lucky enough to buy my bike through one that DOES have warranty's AND insurance through them :).
As for your rebuilds. that depends on HOW and WHY you needed a rebuild, as to whether it would have been covered by a warranty had you had one anyways. I cant claim pistons and rings and junk like that, because that is just general wear and tear maintenence.

You can't do much and neither can he now. It's yours now. You just have to watch out for people like that. Call him and try talking to him.... don't be an ass or sound like one, just try to comprimise with him and if he is an ass about it then just tell him how much of an ass he IS and then tell him that you will never do any business or nothing with him ever again and you will be sure to tell all your friends about him.
