I not dead certain on the cr but when i had my kx i was running it at 35:1 so i dont know but i have a suspcion that it may be running rich but talk to your bike shop about the recommend fuel mix for your bike and find out the standard jetting and the jet that they would recommend for your area as the settings need to be changed to suit the area (affected by the height above ocean)

get a NGK BR8ES. (instead of a 9).
try changing your oil brand before putting it into the shop.
almost all CR models come with a cold spark plug. i recommend getting the hotter one first.
[TOPGEAR]
30th May 2004, 04:10 PM
yeh, the br8es kicks ass, it gives it a bit more power too.
when i got my yz it had a br9egv in it, then i stuck a br8es and it flew :p
one_industries
31st May 2004, 01:17 PM

yeah im runnin a br9es and runs great, cos i was fouling plugs when i got me bike to, dood it could be also the fuel ya using i know some fuel ***es ya plugs, there is such a thing as bad fuel, can *** cars injectors and other things as well as its bad for ya plugs in ya bike and u should try running vortex, or premium unledded if ya not already

"She Takes Premium Dude....PREEEEEEEEEEEEEEMIUM!"..
the normal old unleaded you buy, especially and more so if it is stored for periods of time is plain crap. It can make your biike hard to start if you dont use it on a regular basis. It can make it foul spark plugs even if it is a four stroke, it can make it run lean to the extent it will do motor damage and it can make it overheat. If your lucky, some bikes, will run fine on unleaded, bit will perform better on the higher octaine premium unleaded fuels, and this applies to all stationery motors, chain-saws and whatever else that runs on petrol. I've even heard cases of car engines getting damaged from poor quality unleaded.
The reason is the lower octane a fuel is, the leaner, and hence, hotter a motor will run, ofcourse, if you dont use the bike for a while, you may have to lie it on it's side, drain the carby to put fresh fuel in the bowl to make it start.
Going to the other extreme, even above premium unleaded, Av Gas would make the bike run cooler, make it run richer, and give it more power. Atleast premium unleaded as a minium is the way to go. DO NOT use Shell Optimax

i run mine on unleaded, only cause i get it free. occasionally i run premium.
my bike starts first kick every kick, and never fould a plug. i run a br8es

Yes Shell Optimax is an Unleaded fuel, it is a very high density/octaine fuel that is designed for performance engines that have fuel injection, that can be adjusted to suit.
MotoX bikes these days, as we all know, do not have fuel injection (yet ;)), and therefor, will not run well on optimax without extensive engine tuning and changes, such as jetting, carby needles and sparkplugs, and even with those changes, will still not be as precise as fuel injection.
There is much more risk of running way too rich. with Optimax because of it's high density is more likely to cause overheating.....or as far as my understanding goes....

yer munog i have fouled 6 of em loli get em heaps cheap but liek 5 bucks each
Yammi_man
18th June 2004, 02:18 AM
na have to disagree mungo ive heard from at least 4 bike shops and all me mates that ride reckon optimax is better, without extensive engine tuning or changes. it runs cleaner, its better for ya bike and you seem to get more out of a tank too, oh well in the end fuel is fuel i suppose...
Yammi_man
18th June 2004, 02:25 AM
eyy, guess what, well its 130 in the morning and i just finished work... sorry mungo... yeah DO NOT USE SHELL OPTIMAX!! go vortex or premium. sorry mate im half asleep and mis-red something :)

what about AVGAS?
whats peoples opinions about it i no its banned in races but who still uses it
Yammi_man
18th June 2004, 01:16 PM
u gotta be seriously stupid or seriously a good damn rider to be using avgas, its like ya bike on NOS in otherwords
Rosie125
18th June 2004, 02:35 PM
AVGAS is like the biggest boost 4 ur bike, i wouldnt recomend using it all the time, once in a while mabey, a mate of mine chucked it in my nephews 50 and i think it made the bike go all weird
swapper
18th June 2004, 02:47 PM
Avgas is just a higher quality fuel (higher octane) Doesnt really make the bike run any quicker, it just makes your bike run cooler and cleaner

yeah, and if you get to hot of a plug it will burn a hole in the piston...dont want that do ya
