heh yeh i bought 48 meters for like $460 inc gst (i think) when i went to pay for it i went and rooted around a bit in their scrab bin but evry off cut was small and shit no longer than 40cm havin to make a ramp out of 40cm bit of metal would be a f*uckin mission i reckon, anyway i worked it out three payments from the goverment = nice steel ramp.

WO WO WO......I really do hope your finger slipped man...$460 for 48 meters of steel?, that HAS to be a type-O...That works out to be 9.50 per meter or as most steel company's supply lengths in 8 meters, is $76 per 8 meters...once again, i REALLY hope that was a type-O. I've just recently priced steel again in my area, and 8 meter lengths of 40 x 40 x 1.6 Galvanised RHS is $26.10, and the same stats as those, only with a full 2mill wall is $32.10 per 8 meters. I figured, off plans i have here for a full comp ramp, could be built for $235 (off memory, i think i had 72 meters of steel used, not 100% sure, as the stats where on my PC when i worked this out) OR $288 or so if i went with the 2mill wall stuff....$460 good lord man, and thats only around half the steel i used in my calculations for a full comp ramp. I could almost build 2 complete comp ramps for that price with twice as much steel (Without face material, paint and bolts)

no that aint no typo man, my steel is 3mm thick which might add a bit more on, i didnt really ring around that much as most of the places i rung said around the same price and this dude seemed the coolest so oh well you know what its like, to eager to start buildin straight away but its all good as i said this ramps on centrelink heh heh hey mungo out of curiosity what price can you get 40x40 rhs galvy for?? thats what i got and thats about spot on with the price $9.50 or somethin.

That's still extremely dear for steel man. I dont have a price for 3mill wall stuff, but i do have 2.5mill wall for $33. So i assume that full 3mill would be about $35, and thats for 8 meter lengths. which is a lil over $4.30 a meter...ya REALLY gotta start lookin around man, thats bloody appauling. All those prices are from 40 x 40 Galvanised RHS aswel...

Thats still pretty dear. Thats $6.25 a meter or $50 per 8mtr lengths. which is pretty much TWICE what steel is around here. At this rate I'm really thinkin of startin a ramp building business, either that or selling steel LOL.

what i wrote wasn't a type-o, but it was a mistake.
i actually got 45x45x3. but, i should of got x2.
i think 3mm thick will make her a heavy aussie comp!
who knows, ill find out how much it all was when it gets here and stuff!

i found out today by one steel it costs about $460 for 20mm and for 70 metres of steel. Plus $35 for delivery so it's about $500 with GST included. It's seems cheap enough.

I think most of us have thought about a ramp business, I know I have... and still kind of contemplating it BUT then i think of legal issues and public liability, and I shrug my head in disgust, drop the metal and grinder, walk back inside the house and go to bed. lol!
haha but if this Scummybummy wants a ramp for $5000 I'll gladly do it lol!! hehehehaha

I scabbed 30meters of steel for nothing and i could do it again in an instant. JUst ring and say you want to make a ramp and if you could have any offcuts.
