Helllo everyone My name is Justin I posted this in another section already but i figure i might get a better response here. im moving from the heart of fmx in southern California to Brisbane. I have ridden with the best in so cal and I really like what all you guys are doing with the sport and was hoping some of you could show me some of the crazy stuff i see you doing in all the videos. Just in general if anyone near or from brisbane could show me around to some sweet spots and help me get a bike over there it would be greatly apreciated. Its going to be hard leaving my pad when im minutes away from beumont and reche and an hour from ocotillo and glamis. I have a feeling the riding in your country is gnarly too I just need some help finding it. Thanks look forward to meeting some of you.

Hi mate, there are heaps of dealers that sell used bikes but a lot of the time they tend to rip you off, so i sugest using local trading papers and the internet and buy them privately, heres some links: www.bikesales.com.au (http://www.bikesales.com.au) , www.tradingpost.com.au (http://www.tradingpost.com.au) , www.bikepoint.com.au (http://www.bikepoint.com.au). Even our ozzy ebay has some great buys, hope this helps

P.S if you ever miss your glamis dunes, you will have to make your way down from brissy to my area, stockton sand dunes.

Wouldn't they seem really cheap for him over here because about 60 of his cents is one of our dollars..??

I'm probably wrong anyways.....lol :p

I just went on that site and if a bike cost $5000 Australian Dollars then it is only $3,280.18 US Dollars.....:)

So i think Justin would be cheering at the moment....!!!

( Would hate to be one of us heading over to the USA now though....The exchange rate would kill us!!! )

kinda true but not really... look at the prices of bikes in the USA

For Example BRAND NEW 07 MODEL , 4895$ BUY IT NOW!!!! 2550 starting bid! thats sounds CHEAAP HUh

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Honda-CRF-CRF-250-X-CRF-250X-BRAND-NEW-2007-HONDA-CRF250X-HUGE-DISCOUNT-CRF250-X_W0QQitemZ270330378848QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUS_motor cycles?hash=item270330378848&_trksid=p4506.c0.m245&_trkparms=72%3A317|65%3A12|39%3A1|240%3A1318

So if he comes down here and looks at the price of the same bike!!! he will be shocked but after the exchange rate it works out to be similair or something..

hahah actually your correct, i was looking on that used bike website and was wondering why used bikes were selling for more than i paid for my brand new yzf 450 then i converted the money and bikes are pretty cheap not bad im getting more and more stoked for coming over there

Indestructible
22nd January 2009, 03:48 PM
Ya im not really sure what kind of bike to get yet i need to see what kind of riding it is. I ride a 450 right now because in cali its pretty wide open with big hits in the hills and its the only way to go in the dunes. If queensland only has ramp hits and tracks im probably going with a 250f or 250 two stroke(its been a while since my last two-stroke) but if i need a more versitle bike its going to be another 450 and most likely another yamaha. Maybe you guys could give me an idea of what there is out there. I havent seen much freeriding in the hills form the videos i ve seen mostly just compounds and track am i wrong?

22nd January 2009, 11:41 PM
i dont think there is as much as what u have over there (Freeriding) but just hop on watever u wont. u like the 450 get it. simple :) im only a few hours from bris got a few compounds around my town pretty rad. ull like it im sure over here in the Big Aus

Thanks so much man ill check those site out as soon as i get there. What and where exactly are stockton dunes. are they beach or desert dunes, I ve never heard of them before.

they are beach dunes... not always the best to ride on, but still can be fun.. id recomend a paddle tyre as well.

theres some photos here: http://www.fmxaustralia.com/forum/showthread.php?t=27013&highlight=stockton+dunes

and some in this thread as well: http://www.fmxaustralia.com/forum/showthread.php?t=32324&highlight=rockstar+photography

for riding in the brisbane area.. theres a few riders and a couple of compunds in and around brissy.. as well as a few great guys to ride with.

if ur into competing theres some comps like kotc and fmx nats poking around :)

for a bike, those sites would be the best to look on.. also check out repo auctions.. you can pick them up pretty cheap there as well..

good luck and feel free to ask any questions :)

how and where would i find a repo auction. isnt it kinda hard to tell what kind of shape the bike is in when theyre repo bikes. I know in the states its not even a good idea to buy cars from those things becuase they could have had the hell beat out of them and you would nt know till after its yours. It could be different over there let me know.

There's no freeriding places here mate, but there is a load of trails and you might get lucky to find a few tiny hits. I don't hit ramps (so I can't speak personally) but there's compounds .As for tracks (which I ride) that won't be an issue... Brisbane and the surrounding areas have a few decent tracks.

those sand dunes these people are mentioning are friggen ages away, don't even know theyre mentioning it...

Best bet is to probably try the www.bikesales.com.au and www.bikepoint.com.au site. Infact, I often see good deals on this site in the Sale Yard section. Good luck mate

ermm google does wonders... at the auctions u have a chance to check over the bikes, cars etc etc.. for about 2 hourse.. thats if u get there in time..

another option is check the bikes on sale through the thread

I guess you're right, it just seems that the man was after places more so in brisbane and surrouninding areas. Brisbane had a few decent free riding places back yearss ago, nothing these days.. there's too much development.

hahaha tiny hits in the trails huh, thats too bad. is brisbane growing really fast or something? is that y these trails and riding spots are getting shut down so fast? how do i find these yard sale things?

Delevopment... there were years back a few places with decent sized natural jumps etc.. turned into industrial areas or brand new housing

yes because a 12hour+ drive is nothing at all, right? He was asking for places around the brisbane areas. why the hell comment on my post when RFD~BABE has already?

So-Cal guy, keep us updated on how you're going with everything!

This may not end up being the case at all, but from what I think personally, you're gonna end up disappointed... Living near Beaumont, an hour from Ocotillo and Glamis, to Brissie? Black Duck is now closed so I can't even think of anywhere that would even come close to what you're used to having around.

Maybe it won't be a huge deal. Just seems like I'd miss SoCal pretty quick riding wise especially if you're into Freeriding/tracks more than ramps. On the positive side, if you are into ramps you're moving to Australia's oversized/spread out equivalent of Temecula... :)

KWAKA_FMX
25th January 2009, 04:47 PM
yeah spot on, those are my thoughts too. Sand dunes 10 or 12 hours away, So Cal still has a lot more for riders.

Good luck man.

wow thats too bad, however from what I see from movies and just media coverage over here you guys are some of the best talents in the world. It may be more important for me to be riding with guys that are at that level than skrewing around in the hills. I mean reed came from your country as well as bilko and maddo that says a lot. Thats cool that there is a lot of ramp riding though

How about foam pits are there a lot of guys with those or only the top guys? also i read the thread on Black duck is there any new news with that or is there not a lot of hope for the future?

Haha no unfortunately I haven't, just spent heaps of time on the net wishing I was there lol.

I think a lot of our talent pool comes from so many kids on land. There's a lot of space out here (in the right areas) and a lot of kids with space to ride end up making their own places. That, coupled with determination and being half insane, seems to go a long way. The downside of course being that if you don't have land or make friends with someone who does, there aren't so many options. I'm one of the fortunate ones, my parents own land so I've always been able to ride out the shed and go. Not much of a crew here though, I ride alone unless I drive 2-3 hours...

Hey man.. I'm heading over to the US in late April and staying for almost a month..

Just wondering if there is anywhere i can rent a bike over there while i'm in So Cal?

Indestructible
26th January 2009, 03:51 PM
hahaha unless your want to ride crf 230 or a gay.t.v. your not going to find a bike for rent that you can ride aggressivly, if you know where your going to be in california, ill hook you up with some contacts that will probably be able to set you up.

i was thinking the same thing

i know you keep mentioning theres a lot of talent coming from aus, which is totally true, dont get me wrong, but if you compare the the amount of talent thats come from USA and the talent coming from the USA... well it just seems like you are in the best place in the world for riding right now, and i cant imagine brisbane being able to top that!

in terms of everything else australia is an awesome place to live, but yeah the riding scene isnt as full on over here as it seems to be in USA.
im not trying to psych you out or anything i just thought you should probably know this incase you get dissapointed.

anyway dude im sure you'll love it here either way, goodluck with it!

Down south mate there is PLENTY of freeriding if you know where to go. In know it says around Brisbane, but if you need to scratch that itch at some point, you can is what I am saying. We have dunes very similar to yours, massive hills that go as far as the eye can see. Stuff all riders around cause your generally in the middle of no where. There are always places out there, just depends on who you know.

hey guys i dont know much about project fmx... but would this work for him?

Since bdv's closure a chance for a decent ride in brisbane is rather rare unless you know someone with land/ramps/tracks or ur willing to travel.

some people have it easy, they have a set up in their backyard, if u can sus them out u might be fine :)
