Nice advise on the whips. U got ne thing on turndowns??:D

The Turndown Whip is an advanced extension of the normal whip, so presumably, to be able to do a Turndown you will need to know how to do a normal whip and be comfortable doing them. If not go to here and you can find out how to Whip http://www.fmxaustralia.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&postid=58573#post58573

There isn't much difference with doing a Turndown whip than doing a normal whip. You still approach the ramp off the line of centre by about 6 inches or whatever you feel comfortable with by this time. When you come into the ramp I like to keep myself standing forward a fraction more on the bike than I would a normal whip, and I Turndown and whip to the left (Meaning the front of the bike goes left, back of bike out to the right) so I would hold myself up using my left arm a little more putting weight onto the left hand side a bit more than the right.

As you go up the ramp, turn your body to the side to begin sliding the bike up the ramp and lean hard to the side that you want to turndown.

Once you leave the ramp, just like a whip when you start throwing the bike out to the side and turning your body down a little, well what you should start to do here is, try and keep the bike up right, instead of trying to lay the bike down flat, you have to use alot of strength to push the bike up vertical and really twist your body hard to the left or right.

As you can see in this Pic, instead of flattening the bike out, I'm keeping it straight up and down and also turning my body hard to the left.

When you've twisted your body hard the bike will start to turn sideways and you can kinda judge at what degrees your getting the bike to simply by watching the front fender in relation to the downramp. When you feel you've got to about 45degrees and the bike is still vertical you know you're well on your way to a Turndown.

Now that you've reached this stage you need to know turn your head so you can look back at the ramp. This is the final stage pretty much. So you keep the bike vertical, twist your body to the side (And really try to stay on the left or right side of the bike the duration of the Turndown) and then try and look back at where you came from.

When you want to come back, just like a normal whip, you have to really use your legs to turn the bike back to the centre, turn your body hard and pull the handlebars hard with your arms. Also give the bike a good rev this will speed things up for you

Like I said there isn't much to a Turndown that is different from a normal whip... but alot of confidence in turning the bike sideways to where you want to land!! Take it slowly, make sure you get the feel for pulling on the bike to getting it where you want it to go.
Take Care and Good Luck

Pic I took of Steve Mini at last years King of the Coast competition. He's just extended the Turndown and is just about to land pointing his head towards the downramp and starting to turn the bike back. Notice his body is more to the left hand side of the bike when he has twisted his body for the Turndown -

i naturally do turndown whips rather then flat whips. i have no idea why. i have read over your flat whips one, and i will try that. thanks for all your trick help. (even though i race, it is very helpful for everyone else)

i would rather do flat whips. when i watch reed and MC, at the end of there flat whips, it goes into a turndown so they can bring it back easy. its f'en huge!!

Defintly a fat trick when pulled guys like urek and twitch and by the looks of that pic mini have got this trick wired and it looks freakish when they have the back at almost 90degrees to the ramp and then just twist back and land straight
Its not the biggest trick out there but its definetly a fav of mine thanx for all the trick tips steve your doing an awesome job

Here's a video for you to have a look at. The extension isn't fully perfect (not completely sideways but it's close enough). You can slow it down and pinpoint exactly how I twist up the ramp and how I get the turn on the bike instead of doing a normal whip.

i naturally do turndowns too but i dont want to jump anything big enough to do it fully because im not confident, the jump i do is probably 20ft and i can get it about 45 degrees out to the side, i can do normal whips but only on the odd occasion. for some reason i do normal whips to my right hand side and turndowns to my left:o

You can land pretty sideways with no dramas, just make sure your front wheel is straight.

I have spent about 5 years on my bike trying to pefect the whip, and Yesterday I started trying turn downs.
I feel like the first half of the motion is sweet, but on the second part of the motion I feel a bit awkward and would like to be able to bring the bike back quciker.
Any secrets on that particular part of the turn down?

Here is a pic from yesterday, The timing of the photo was great, I am fully extended and still looking back at where I had come from.
You can get a bit of perspective of the angle from the top of the down ramp.

Rhys' big ones aren't really Turndowns so much as big ol regular whips with a lookback and tweak at the end. So it kinda depends on which you wanna do... I still class Turndowns as pullin it 90 without gettin the bike flat, ala Urek style.

From what I remember about yours Jayden, they were actually fairly proper Turndowns, so doin it your way will probably never end up the same as Hilldawgs haha. They still look rad though so I reckon just keep crankin them around, and maybe rip your head/shoulders around towards the ramp more if you want that bit extra, might add some flair too... Worth a try eh?
