ok, well my bike smokes a shit load and has heaps of excess oil out of the exhaust!!
i have been told to use a fuel to oil ratio of 33:1 with my 2001 CR 250. Is that too much?? or should i play around with the jetting??
the exhaust should be a slight blue colour shouldnt it?? coz at the moment it is just really smokey!!
im sure some of you out there know what i should do... thanks

Lean the ratio a bit mate, try 36:1, if not, go to 40:1 which I used to use on RM250
Just play with it mate, don't lean it toooo much or Boom

I personally, well, all the Mungo crew that ride, use a ratio of 40:1 with both 125's and 250's, Smoke a fair bit when ya start em and when warmin up, but give it 10min and it'll be hunky dorey. With that mix in my 2001 YZ250, it still leaks a lil oil outta the silencer, but as in many other threads we've been over the various points that can lead to that, not revvin it enough, or different oil brands for instance...but yes, as Steve's said, try different mix ratio's, but make sure ya know the limits, cause as he said...."Boom".

depends on your riding style. if your just a ramp rider, not using high revs, you jet your bike to suit it. to you will lean your jetting.
if your a rev head or racer, you would richen your jetting up.
but jetting is the last thing you play with. try changing your fuel ratio. if you get it to 40:1 and its still playing up, change your jetting based on my first paragraph. for more info, check out this thread on the fmtx forums by Greg Strange.

edit: what type of spark plug are you running? try the simplest thing first. try a hotter plug. there are some people on fmtx forums that had problems with the stock plug in there CR250s, so they changed them to 1 hotter plug and it helps a bit better.

Hey Bro i had a '01 CR250 before i got my yz i had the same problem i used to run 40:1 fuel/oil mix using Motul 800 and cause im in the NT all the humidity im guessing i ended up puttin in the smallest main jet and smallest pilot jet (that come with the bike spares) and i also had to buy a 1 size bigger needle with that set on the leanest clip postion it was burning clean........play with your jetting. Take a look at your plug it should be a light brown colour if it is running correctly if its black and wet.....too rich if it is white and real dry lookin then its to lean....try playin with your needle clip position and take a look at your pulg till its a light brown colour.....u should hear or feel if your bike starts running to lean.
Hope ive been some help
