Rightio me and my old girl and getting into photography and i was wondering what would be a good and cheap camera to use one witrh optical zoom and sutff so anyone who knows stuff about cameras post a pic of the camera and all the good things about it and a price

i got a sony cybershot dsc-p72.

its a good camera with digital & optical zoom. not sure how much zoom each one has but it totals to 9.6x zoom.

cost me $520 at jb-fi (at the time it was $630 at clive peters).

recently ive seen it in big-w's catalog for $480.

its 3.2mp which i dont really use, every pic i take i resize it to 1024x768.

3200x2800

its something like that, not sure what it is exactly.

just about any cybershot is good.

yer nice cmera but im looking for something with lenses and stuff and more mega pixdl so i can enlarge the pics to way bigger but nice camera man

i got a kodak dx6490, which take awesome photos, so does pete. i looked in the fuji s5000, but they arent worth it, either is the s7000, if you want a full slr digital, i have always wanted a canon rebel, they are a sick camera, about 1200-1500 i think, they can exchange lenses to, as they are a full slr, not look-a-like one.

Dont bother looking at digital zoom specs, its crap and just makes your photos look chunky if you get what I mean by that.. Optical zoom is the shitz and what you should look for..

Also I've heard the is a new Nikon out soon that is under $1,000 and has lots of features... Maybe worth sussing that out too...

I'm guessing we've established you're goin digital straight up lol. So my recommendation of something you're looking for would be something like a Nikon 5700, or if you want interchangable lenses, either a Nikon D100 or the new D70, they're both sweet. Or that 300D Kyle posted. The 5700 has 8x optical zoom but the lens isn't interchangable, but it does offer a pretty good range of zoom I've found, quite impressive. All the SLR's won't give you zoom figures since it depends what lens you put on it, and you usually don't get one with the camera. Oh and the 5700 is 5MP, the D100 and D70 are 6.1MP I think.

never buy a camera from a shop, sounds dumb but you can save over 500 buying them from the net or ebay, my boss got his at work for 1100AUS and it retails for 1000US. over in america, put two and two together and you get a real good deal.

You really can't go past the 300D buddy it used the same technolody as the D10 but uses a plastic body, and make is taiwan instead of japan, so it brough the costs down.

It's by no means a cheap camera though! It's really awesome camera and the bext bang for your buck in the market.

Yeah as Insane said, stay away from digital Zoom. Thats why we bought the Kodak Dx6490, it's got a big 10x optical zoom, it's proberbly the best in it's class.

matt, i'm looking at the Canon EOS 300D body, mainly becos it fits all my lenses for my EOS 300 (man have i got nice parentals or what??) It depends whether you want quality like Adam's (for mags etc) or whether u want it just so u can post shizzle up here and so ur mum can archive fam pics etc. No way in hell would i go out and buy the 300D if i had no lenses, so maybe think bout what you want it for, have a look round the sites, and um Kyle you do realise that the exchange rate doesnt mean it'll be much cheaper, maybe you sign up for e-bay anon??

Yeah digi zoom bad. The Fuji Finepix S5000 and S7000 have 10 optical zoom too, I'd say they're probably Fuji's equivalent to the aforementioned DX6490.

Yer 300D's are nice... Its basicly the same camera as I use with a plastic case and made in Twaiwan as AusFmx said.. Its 6.4 megapixel and everything else is almost the same, I have a few little features it doesn't and it just shoots less continous shots than mine...

Oh incase you didnt know the 300D does come with a lense, battery and everything else you need to get started.. Its a nice value for money camera and if you spend on extra lense's there is no reason why it cant take mag quality shots....

BTW I just got home from buying myself a new Speedlite 420EX for my camera... Canon make some sick shitz, I never knew you could get such funky little flash unit... All I need to do now is save lots more money and I could have 20 flash units setup around a arena, all wireless flashing away whenever I want to take a pic... coolness.. :)
