These spammers are really starting to annoy me. I am thinking I might close the site to all new members until they are validated manually by me (LOTS LOTS more work) but even then its gonna be hard to stop people like the hippy "Jeannette" who sent these buddist pm's... All her account details looked legit...

sheesh even the bloody buddists are in on the act, spaming the site..
Next we'll have the bloomin Pope spamming fmxaus... ;)

Huh. That's weird. I happened to be on last night, checking out Jeannette's profile which said she was Creating a PM at that minute. Thought nothing of it cause it all looked legit. Strange coincidence!

I just don't get the point of spamming this site really... I mean ok so a few users might look at the **** links ("Adam looks at Grant with one eyebrow raised" :)) but whats the point spamming about buddism or even ****** on a FMX site?

How many of FmxAus's members would be buying ****** online??? How many will convert to buddism just cause a PM said so ? Its just such a waste of everyones time and effort....

To be honest I just don't know how to stop people signing up and posting spam unless I spend alot of time manually validating each and every new account... Something I really dont want to do and not something that will always work... I cant really tell, I'd just be banning dodgy usernames...

I've banned as many free email thingys as i dare (alot of members user yahoo mail, hot mail ect so I cant ban the big ones), added extra graphical type the number things, added more words to the swear filter, removed images and bb code from the extreme forum (temporarily) and a few other bits and pieces.

They obviously use a "bot" but they also must manually sign up and stuff too.. I was hoping they got bored by now but I guess not... I am still working on it though, so hopefully I come up with a solution...

I guess the only plus is that this spam dribble reinforces the fact that this site is internationally massive, only big hit sites would cop this sort of crap.
bit off topic.. Insane I read in freerider a while back that u into roadies as well, u race at all? bought a k7 gixa 750 in feb an lovin it... managed to dodge the fuzz so far. What was the white bike u were cutting the dirty skid on i n the pic?

i mention'd this awhile ago in another thread, perhaps deleteing the extreme stuff forum and see if they stop posting spam. and just make a new extreme forum.

Maybe just have more moderators to delete the threads and users quicker???

Or if the software allows, have a 2 or 3 post threshold before new users can post a thread, kinda like how some places need a few posts before you get an avatar... Cause the spammers usually only ever sign up, post one and are gone, so if they have to reply a couple times first that should at least help, maybe...

As for looking, I know how to keep work and play separate Adam don't you worry. :D

That sounds like it would work. don't let them PM either until they have made a few reply posts.
