aparently in some interview metz talked about him doing the first flip. apparently he was a bmx freestyler and he was the first to backflip a bmx also.

i only posted it now because thats when i saw it

and colour cameras were around in the 70s im pretty sure.

ps. how the **** was i supposed to post back then. first of all fmx australia wasnnt around in 1986 it was created in 2002 dumbass and second im only 14 this happened in 1986 which if you do the maths is 7 years before i was born.

tey deffinatly had colour cameras then, theres colour footage of the second world war... unless its remastered into colour.... which i doubt, but yeh, deffinatly had colour.

haha sweet vid, doesnt have much style about him, but yeh, it was the first flips so cant blame him haha thats mad

arrr dude i think he was talking about the guy who did the flip, if they did it first back in 86....y wouldnt they show someone instead of just leaving the footage sitting there up until now, just seems a bit weird not to show the first ever backflip when it happened

ok personally i think it was NOT from the 80's
i think that it was filmed recently
becasue if it was fromt he 80's why have we not seen it earlier? and also it isnt that hard to make new footage look like very old footage with teh computer prgrams we have these days and all he would have had to do was get an old bike get some old racing gear build a scabby looking wooden set up download some sound effects from old movies off limewire and WOLLA! you have yaself some footage which looks like it is from the mid-late 80's

I think this was on the mountain bike video called hammer time.

And they always refer to the first backflip in competition, not the first back flip ever.

I found this on EXPN.com about Bob Kohl.
BOB KOHL
Born: FRANKFURT GER
Birthdate: 06/03/1970
Height: 5 ft 9 in
Weight: 180 lbs.
Hometown: DES PLAINES, IL USA
Occupation: PRO-RIDER
Marital Status: Single
Children: 1
Participant since: 1976
Competitor since: 1982
Notable:
Bob Kohl has been on a 20-inch bike for as long or longer than some XG competitors have been alive. He is the first person to have completed a backflip on a motorcycle (an 80cc) back in 1993. Bob was sidetracked by massive injuries from the backflip stunt in 1995, the year he was going to begin his BMX competition comeback. Today Bob is boosting huge airs out of the vert ramp, doing shows with his Ride and Grind crew, and raising his seven year-old son Jake.

Quote:
The motorized backflip cost Bob a serious toll on his body. He explains, "I got hurt pretty bad doing [the flip] in shows. I got busted up pretty good so I put [the 80cc] away. I shattered my hip and pelvis, had internal bleeding, broken ribs, I had trouble with my liver and spleen. Then my lungs went out and I had a tracheotomy. I was pretty much in the intensive care unit for two months."

he made them 70%
in 1996 he stoped after he over shot the landing since he over compensate on the in run and laning on the pavment.

I always thought that carey hart was the first to make a motorcycle flip, because before that people didn't reckon it was possible because they thought that the centrivical force of the motor would stop it from flipping.

First of all to all you 14 year old kids who think Caleb was the first to land a flip on a moto your wrong... YES Caleb was the first to "ride away from the flip on a big bike" but he wasn't the first to flip... As far as i knew Bob Kholl *sp* was the first to land a flip on moto (size aside cause it was an 80cc) still nuts but cause he did it a bunch of times on a portable set up with shows...

Carey Hart is the real god of the flip... There is no despute in anyone who has a shmick about the sport that Hart landed the first "real" flip (big bike, full rotation, slapped it down)...

As for this new stuff... Could be photoshoped, maybe not... i don't know, if its real im not surprised, just cause sumthing wasn't in the media doesn't mean it didn't happen, madddddd props to the guy if its the real deal... ;)

Luv Joel.

old thread but any who. poeple on smaller motorbikes have been doing them for a long time im pretty sure a guy stomps a flip on a 50 in one of the early crusty vids i guess thats the reason this bloke was never given the credit he probably deserves, who was the first to flip a motor?, no one could know for sure and it takes instances like this to show people they dont know everything and for the kids that say no this cant be so becuase i saw a documentary? grow up dude and open your mind a little. You will never learn anything in life if you think you already know everything.
