View Full Version : FMX Nationals Ramp size?

I know this is probably a silly question to ask, as not many people would know, but I'll ask anyway... Does anyone who went to X-Rated know what the sizes of the ramps were that we were hitting? I've been thinking about building my second ramp for a while now, and after the weekend riding X-Rated, and not feeling comfortable (on ramps other than my own), that I should have a crack at making that style ramp. It looked taller than Aussie standard, apparently by 50mm, but not sure on length, and whether it was still 9.1m constant radius, or indeed a constant radius altogether. It had alot more pop than I expected, and I know a few of the guys weren't really impressed with it, but with adequate practise, I reckon it would be one hell of a ramp. I can only think of Rory (FMX Kaos rider) who would know the dimensions, so maybe Lisa could help here??

i have seen more and more people increasing the height of the aussie comps, by 100mm and 200mm sometimes, it is meant to give like 2-3 extra foot of kick. this may help, but you already most likely know this.

LOL yes I do... found out first hand when I felt as if I was floating for an eternity waiting to land, the first time I hit it haha. Andy rode over and goes... "Steve... I'd hit it a wee bit quicker than what you'd think to hit it" Just aswell I took his advice cos a few of the guys were muckin' themselves up coming up short. So does anyone know if the length is changing and what is happening to the radius of these ramps when they increase the height?? Personally I feel they've just kept the length the same, gave it a few more millimetres on the curve and lifted it a fraction, and that's how I'd probably build my own ramp - Just figured I'd get the low down on those ramps first.

the ones i have seen and talked to the builders, they have just increased the height and left the radius 9.1 metres and lift it to the new height and again leave the length, 6.1 metres the same.

Leaving the length the same when you increase the height just makes the transition from the ground to the ramp slightly harder, as the angle of the transition is more compared to the ground. If that makes sense. To keep the smoothness the same what I'd do is increase the height and leave the radius the same, then readjust the length to the new height so it all sits properly. With that little increase in height though I highly doubt it'd be noticable in the scheme of things so really you could do what you wanted. Couple of weeks ago I hit a 2.7m comp ramp and it sorta booted more but it was only a small gap so I don't really know what it feels like properly. Unfortunately I don't know the length of it because it's that dual tranny ramp at Liam's I posted pics of. Although I looked at it and the bottom didn't seem to curve into the ground as much as the standard comp ramps I've seen so my guess is it's still around 6.1m.:D
