If u want a full sized plot of the ramp to lay out and build off..ell thats another story, but it can be done.

I ride a YZ426f. Bit bigger than the 80, but I think teh ramp would suit an 80 much better. Cost me $480 to build

yeah - constant radius. just tell the fabricator that u want 30 x 30 x 1.6mm RHS rolled to a constant radius.

I bought all tehrest of teh steel from a web site called steelsolution.com.au. They cut it all to size.

I welded it myself - never welded before - it was hard work. Stuffed it first time around and had to reweld it all aain after a bit of tuition.

Also whadda reckon about it made outta wood. if braced properly. Cus my dad said hed help me make it. But he isnt too good with metal but real good with Wood.

Yep, u need 30x30x1.6mm RHS rolled to a constant 3500mm (the 3400 is wrong!!) radius. The overall length you need is 3100, assumming you want to build teh ramp with the full curve. (I have built this, and its pretty steep. havent had teh guts to hit it yet!!.

Att is what I sent to the metalshop. cost me $100 for the 2 bits.

Forget timber. It will shake to bits unless you make it really solid, and the work/time/money spent will be the same as metal.

The main cross braces that go under teh ply are 840mm long. (the overall width is 900mm (840+30+30) 900mm is the standard size of a piece of ply. Everything is made from 30 x 30.

I plotted out teh plans full size and laid it out on my shed floor, and then just laid the rest of the steel out and cut it as required.

The plans were stuffed by the time i finished, with weld burns, rips etc. If u are really serious, I could get more, but it costs about
$20.00 to print them. It made it like putting a jigsaw together.

My ramp cost 480 all up inc welder hire, ply, screws etc. Not too bad, because i really have 2 jumps as I can change teh lip. It would be cheaper if you just went for one fixed lip.

the Arc welder cost me $38.00 a day, plus the rods cost about $30.00. I got it from kennards hire. I welded the whole thing in a day.

I've never welded before, and it took me a while to get teh hang of it. a mate came over and gave me some pointers and it worked out OK. Its not that harsd once u understand the basics. The cleaner the cut the better the weld. I made all my cuts with a hacksaw, so soem were hard to weld. If I had a good drop saw it would have been easier.

The ramp I designed has an interchangeable top, but in reality, the one with the straight lip is the most fun. The curved lip uses the full length of the curved tube. Its a constant radius from teh time you hit it, until the time you take off. Ive never hit it with the MX, cos it will throw me straight up!. I'll keep that for the BMX and MTB.

To cut costs u can do the following (depending on how resourceful u are.)

1. find second hand steel. Go to a scrapyard and u should pick it up cheaper.
2. See if u can scam some old plywood to reduce the cost.
3. Build the ramp as a fixed one and dont worry about the changeable top. That'll save you quite a few metres of steel, and hours of work. I reckon you would do it for 300 easy.

I jsut had a couple of shitty little clamps to hold things together, and used the tiedowns for my bike to keep it together when I welded. It was a real McIvor job.

Becaus I laid the steel directly over the full size plans, I did not need a jig. it was 100% accurate.

Yeah there is sweeeeeeeeet F#$@ all around here... I've thought about asking salvo's, land owners and all that but I don't think any will say yes.. You can sneak into the national park and there used to be a few small crappy dirt hits but I've havent been there in years...Also the ranger doesn't take long to hear you and chases you out pretty quick... I've been off my CR for a while due to injury aswell and the place where I had access to a ramp is no more.. :( The ramp is being moved to a new 4 ramp compound that is under construction (2 ramps up and going last week) which is down near rosebud Im told, I havent been there yet myself but may take the CR out of moth balls and head down soon if I feel up to it and scope it out.. And of course I'll post pics... ;)

hehe, na bro, i dont think there is a program out there dedicated to the sole purpose of designing ramps. I use a program called "AutoCAD" which is a design and drafting program us drafters use. And I know ya gunna ask so here it is, the "student version" goes for around $400 and the hole business package runs around the $4000 mark. So i wouldn't recomend buying it just to draw up a few little ramp designs, it really isn't worth it. I find Pen, paper and a ruler can be just as good half the time. :D

I also scan my PC with a program called 'ad-aware" that scans ya PC including registry keys and everything for any extra files or keys that dont need to be there. + firewalls and virus scanners and various other security programs.

But Anywho, yeah, ya probably could use KaZaA to get AutoCad, but it'd be a rather large file, probably 300-400mb +, dunno, never searched for it myself :| you'd be in business if ya had broadband or cable or ANYTHING except 56k. :(

thats the biggest load of crap i've ever heard you don't need to go in comps to be a FREEstyler .... note the emphasis on FREE .... isn't that what freestyle's about, not being restricted by the boundaries and rules of racing ... heck thats how this whole movement started, a bunch of guys got sick of the conformity of racing so went and hit jumps and crusty was born. And you can argue that thats freeriding and freestyle you have to go in comps. but how i see it freeriding is more about riding all types of terrain, hitting natural hits, cliffs, roosting trails maybe throwing the odd trick etc, while freestyle is more based around performing tricks in the air on a dirtbike, not just comps and demos.
my 2c , and if anyone else says these kids aren't freestylers cause they don't go in comps, think again, they live, breath, probably sleep fmx ... even if they aren't at pro level yet i'd still call em freestylers.
