i dont think there is a set name for them.
Dual Tranny Ramps i guess.
the person to ask about them is the person who built one to that link (on the fmtx forums)

how to post pictures:
once you have made a new thread and click post reply, (you cant do this on "Quick Reply) go down the page and you will see on the left.. Below "Options", there is an "attach file" section. click Browse, and then browse through your files. it tells you what type of files you can upload. if its in valid file name, then you cant post it.

if the file size is to big, it wont post. also, try to keep the file width and hieght around 800x600 pixels.

welcome to the forum!

hey i spent a good couple hours looking for some more pics, i had 2 get these off some swedish fmx demo website, these demo ppl do a bunch of demos all over the place and they all use these style of ramps, so if they are built right i dont think they will be 2 bad for flex and stability, etc here some pics

Those style of ramps are actually used in Flaps new MCM2 freestyle setup "Thrashed Lands 2, and they all have the banner "Air Division on them.....I had a quick look around the net, and couldn't find any freestyle company by that name, so I'm not sure if they're a direct ramp brand and/or style, or whether it's another type of company... cause I've never heard of the Air Division name within the Freestyle scene.

do you think that those would be as strong as a convetional ramp and would it use less steel tubing

Hey that’s a sick ramp does anyone know the constant radius And the degree lip of that baby?????

GStylEr
26th May 2004, 11:10 PM
Found some pics for you wiggas. This is Liam's, based off an Aussie Comp ramp, but 2.7m high and slightly shorter I believe. Hence it has a 9.1m radius.

Another one. It kicks good and is very stable from what I've seen, only hit it at 30ft or so due to a small downramp but it showed no signs of moving at all.

thanks GStylEr for the info ,do you know what's the degree lip ?

righto, this may seem like a stupid question, but why exactly do they call those "duel" curve ramps? it's not like they have 2 curves to em.... What's the deal? do the two main legs on em slide down or up to create a new curve?.....cause thats about the only theory i can come up with as to why the word "duel" would be used in relation to a ramps curve...which when i think about is, isn't right either, cause if that was the case, it'd make more than 2 curves, it'd make as many as ya want, ya'd just keep puttin pin holes in the leg sliders....Go on, amuse an idiot, explain it :smoker2:

SiCKiD

cuz i don't think it need's one? or... it does?

They are called Duel Transition ramps. Basically, they are more portable and use less matrial then a normal ramp. They have 2 transitions, hence the name "Duel Tranny Ramps." If you look at the pictures there are a bunch of zigzag supports inbetween the 2 transitions, then only 2 legs going to the ground.

Mungoman45
26th May 2004, 11:33 PM
Ooooooooh, the "transition" is in reference to the actual double transition STEEL used on the edges. Now I'm with ya's, thanks Pete, you're very learn-Ed :p. Just the name is very decieving, as they're not actually duel transition, cause that gives the direct impression they have 2 different transitions, which they dont. Whoever designed those, should have really made a more appropriate name.

Shifty
26th May 2004, 11:40 PM
Well yeah, you could think of it that way. But all it is is basically 2 transitions, one underneith the other.

THEY ARE TRYING TO DECEIVE US. IT'S A CONSPIRACY!!!! IT'S CONSPIRACY DAMMIT!!! *Gets dragged away kicking and screaming by the docters in white coats*

It's those damn European people hahaha! Nah I dunno, we just been calling it the "portable" I guess really. Oh and Brad the Air Division thing is just Flap and them's MCM2 design team that's why it's on the ramps and ya couldn't find anything else.
As for the final angle, I got no idea since I'm not completely sure on the length of it and stuff like that... But an Aussie Comp is 43... So that would be between 45 and 50 I would say.

Yeah Pete is right... Don't worry Mungo it had me puzzled for a while too.. But I drank some beer and it all became clear.. Duel refers to the two radius runs with bracing in between.. Because they are triangles it would be as strong as hell... The feet look a bit suspect.. But hey if it works and can be broken into three so it fits in the back of my van with the bike.. Then order me one now!!!

BEER!...ofCOURSE, how could i have been so stupid. To beer,*Raises Stubby* the cause of, AND solution to....all of lifes problems :drink:

But yes, I'm not completely swayed on the whole design myself, the complete lack of vertical supports has me a tiny bit worried. I'd atleast jam another set of "legs" in the middle.

GStylEr
27th May 2004, 02:48 AM
Yeah best way to sway someone would be to get em to hit it I reckon, I never thought twice about the ramps quality or anything, just jumped it. As far as I've heard it's been jumped up to 65ft so far with no worries at all, the legs are slanted and braced and are stable, and they easily hold the tranny up. Being built like roof trusses they're easily strong enough. I guess ya just gotta check it out first-hand and once ya see how thick the metal is, the legs and stuff, any fears should be allayed.:D

Yeah Gstyler I'm right there with ya.. But I also see Mungo's point as well... Before I can comment on it any further I'd really like to see one up close and kick of it..

I was also thinking that another set of legs about half way would be a good idea too... It's not that I'm worried about it collapsing in the middle but more for support so it doesn't tip sideways as you whip off it... The angled legs will help in supporting it but the feet need some form of metal plate welded to them so it can't tip..

Anyways that's enough crap from me back to my beer... Ahh beer so much more than a breakfest drink... BURP!!!

any of you got plans for a dual tranny ramp? they look like they would be a bit cheaper to make then the normal FMX ramps....

DirtCowboy
27th May 2004, 12:58 PM
I dont think that their would be a lot of difference in the price as the ramp would require you to have the 4 pieces rolled to the 9.1m constant radius and would be mighty time consuming putting in all the braces like that.
But the huge advantage of it is the way that it collapses down i think i be making a standard comp ramp when i get around to making mine but may use slitly different reinforcement (similar in style to the one the mike metzger use at his house compound.

GStylEr
27th May 2004, 01:59 PM
Yeah the legs have big round plates welded on em so it all sits flush... And like I dunno there is the vert supports in the middle there so the whole ramps not sitting on the 2 big ones but yeah everyone's gonna have an opinion on it I guess. We're all cool with jumpin it so I guess that's all that matters for the moment ey. More legs wouldn't be a huge operation anyway actually I think, just attach em the same as the big ones by compressing the end of the tube and bolting it through the transitions so yeah it'd be easy enough to do. Oh and DirtCowboy, it's only 2 of em that get rolled to 9.1m, the other 2 get rolled to say 9.6m if you were to space them 500mm apart. I'd say it would be a fair bit cheaper overall, dunno about the cost of those leg pipes but yeah. Might have to build one myself oneday and I can tell ya'll about it lol.

Hi most of the pics you posted are taken in Norway.

Thats why most of the guys call them Norway Ramps.

They are used on every Norwegan freestyle Championship

and my local track has one.

yea the one i built in those two pics g man posted, i mainly built that as i needed to build somthing inovative for school, as far as cost it wasnt really ny cheaper than a normal ramp cause of the rolling and the trusses use more metal than it seems, it took alot of stuffing round to build however if i had a better working space it would of helped as i had trouble gettin it at flush as the workshop floor was slanted for a drain. The end result though is a very portable ramp that can fit easy on the back of a ute to be taken round wherever. I dont really have any purpose for it as i dont need to move my ramps to ride, but if you do let me know and make me an offer, The ramps built to a high standard and can garentee due to the brace design that its just as stable if not stableer than a normal ramp, cause the big legs angle outwards too making the ground surface larger.surface is ply with sand coat and a strip of sheet metal ran up under to be sure you dont break throu it..
