hey my naighbours have jsut sent a letter of complaint about my bike (125sx '03') and wrote a lot of shit in the letter about the muffler and crap he didnt even no what he was talknig about so i was wundering if there was anything icould buy or do to it to make it not so loud to keep that ****er off my back need help quick ! thanks all

i had the same prob..... i put 2 coke cans with drilled holes in the and it cut down the sound.....but it's hard to get it to work proply

It may or may not help a whole lot but if the bike is ridden alot and you havent done it, check you dont have any exhuast leaks and repack it the mufller... It helps to cut down noise...

You can buy the packing at any bike shop and its not that hard to do on aftermarket jobs, Im not sure about stock ones, might be a little harder with stockies... dunno *shrugs*

Other than that, I dunno what to do about the neighbour.. Sounds like you have lots of land, maybe keep away from the side where he is.. Or ask Matty, he had a problem like this...

A 4-stroke is just as loud, maybe moreso when you're hitting it... I'm no lawyer or anything but I'm 80% sure they can't do anything to stop you. You are on private property, seemingly in a non-residential classed area and riding in reasonable hours. Someone can only make a noise/disturbing the peace claim after 10pm as far as I know. So if you're riding and done before then, the old fella hasn't got crap on you. He can get the police and council involved all he wants but from my perspective, he has no case. What would they do for a sentence anyway? I doubt the idea of bike confiscation, and unless they order a custom silencer be made for the bike nothing will change. Even if the old turd does win the most that will happen is they will tell you what times you can ride at I imagine. Which will suck I agree but hey, being that you go to school, weekday riding would be the same anyway unless they stop that.
On another note if for some reason you're made to stop riding get revenge of sorts by sitting out front of his driveway pretending to do drugs and loiter. Old people have a way of figuring out better alternatives when they see them sometimes...

I really cant see any laws being broken....just one grumpy old fart causing trouble. MotoX bike silencers arn't made for , and are illegal for use on main roads...which your not riding on...you're ridin on private property, and a far slice of it at that, and as Grant has said, noise complaints, even in Towns and city area's can only be made, and acted on after 10pm. Even if the council and police are involved at the moment, they'd be just gettin your side of the story i guess, just to shut the old fart up, and well, i really cant see anyone charging you with anything, after all....what laws are being broken?....in order for you to be charged with something, you'd have to have broken a law....and if that old fart does continue his winging, i'd love to hear what they "attempt" to charge you with.

if i was you i would go tear the old farts lawns and property to shreds but on a mates bike, really stick it to him, also theres no law to stop you, tho if u ride in the same area (close to him obviously) then there could be trouble but otherwise no, the other thing is get some ristrictors on you silencer, i know they make em for 125sx's cuz they use em on the road worthy bikes, if u get one of them on your bike you'd be right the other thing is go get a enduro silencer, long and annoying i know but then theres nothing he can or the authorities can do.
For a quick solution burn his house down while hes still in it! LOL im sure he would never complain again. Though theres only one other option get a registered bike, and convert it to a MX'er that way when they come to check it out its a road legal bike and cant stop you even if your riding around at full revs.
I would love to stick it to the government and laws, cuz they seem to hate us riders more than they hate the real criminals!

Far from screwed, all they could possibly "make" you do is repack your silencer, or get another one. Nothin ya'd call a dramatic harsh penalty. remember, they're not designed to be quiet, they're designed to give maximum power, not give "just enough power to noise ratio to keep some old fart happy". cause at the end of the day, they're a powerfull competition machine, not some quiet grandma scooter. I'd say invite a heap of riders around for a "play day" and show him just how noisey they can be, then I'm sure he'll appreciate the low noise of just one bike hehe. I used to have around 10-15 riders at my old place most weekend, neighbours where just acrross the road.....no worries what so ever...guess it's just the luck of the draw with who ya cop as neighbours

I dunno about the 10 - 11 o'clock dead line everyone was sayin...I have had the cops over hear twice cause of noise complaint not just from next door but the whole street...

I live in a urban area that backs onto a semi-rural area...and just over the fence is a 80 acre block of land, and me mate dan owns it...the old woman 2 house up from mine complains all the time, cause we have a nice loamy berm about 15 metre from her back fence...the cops could do anything, thats what they told me and her...

the only time the cops could have done something was when I was puttin a new tyre on me XR630, so as ya do, I ripped a skid while I had the old tyre on in me garage...the cops pulled up just as I clicked into 4th gear, some shit about I was despercing smoke that would ruin the inviroment....

but back to the story, I can make as much noise as I want from 8 to 5...but after 5 I have to tone it down....and thats only for my house...its abit later for up at dan's compound/track....

just keep thinkin mate that ya are not doing anything wrong...OK

and seriosly think about what mungo said, with some mates comin over......

yeh I'm with R2DFMX, dont give up mate...ya got a old car around, if ya do rip the exhaust off, so the flow is coming striaght out of the manifold, take the bonnet off...and rip the place up...trust me that'll make alot more noise than ya bike...I use to have a old valiant with no exhuast, and ya ears would ring for days just from sittin in the tray with the dogs...

just dont give up, and if worse comes to worse..and ya do get a 4, get a big FMF pipe on the batsard and he'll wish ya still had the 125...hahahahaha

The four banger will definately be louder especially on the Db Meter. My Dad raced Formula 500's for quite a few years, down in places like murraybridge they have to comply with noise restrictions of 100Db. Dad had a JAWA 500cc four stroke engine and had trouble with keeping under. But others were running RGV 500 2 strokes with race pipes and all and always went under the 100 Db. Chances are you'll go under. Repack will help but you're almost out of options. One thing we did with an exhaust system on a go kart (2 stoke 250cc) was run the tail pipe inside the final chamber of the exhaust with the silencer on the end still, this helped heaps, hard to explain.

yeah they can't do shit a mates neighbours used to complain and ring the cops, all the cops could do after the group of neighbours complaining was sit in a vacant block of land nearby with a db meter, there was about 4 of us riding there and nothing else happened apart from one neigbour moving out and us getting done for blowing his letterbox up, they can't do shit about one bike on 35 acres, best part about my mates neighbour was the clothesline backed onto his paddock so their freshly washed clothes got roosted a few times
