A great crowd braved terrible weather conditions in Wollongong to see local rider Jay Marmont (Motorex KTM Racing) take his fifth consecutive Pro Open win in round seven of the Australian Supercross Nationals at WIN Stadium.
The technical track, that should have provided the best racing yet, deteriorated to a mud bath in the torrential rain, but a cool Marmont kept a huge lead throughout the race with No Fear Honda's Troy Dorron and KTM teammate, Cheyne Boyd taking second and third places respectively.
Jay's younger brother Ryan Marmont (Motorex KTM) wasn't so fortunate in the Pro Lites final. After a good start he was caught in a pile up at the bottom of the exceptionally slippery ramp in the first lap. New Zealand's Cody Cooper (No Fear Honda) took advantage of the weather, proving experience in wetter conditions and a level head makes all the difference as he steered clear of the black spots to take first place.
Privateer Jay Johnson also rode an impressively cool race coming in second with No Fear Honda's Jye Harvey in third. Other stars of the night in the Pro Lites were Adam Cini (Serco Yamaha) and Cameron Sinclair. Cini won his heat and Sinclair won the Repecharge. Toby Price also just missed out on a podium place thanks to Harvey's pass in the last lap. Marmont retains his lead in the series.
Despite the heavy going and tiring racing, US import, Greg Schnell, riding for KTM Redbull showed his experience and superior level of fitness, competing and coming sixth in both the Pro Open and the Pro Lite categories!
The cumulative three races of the1800 Reverse Junior Development Series saw some of the fiercest competition of the night. The fearless youngsters hurtled through the mud with incredible determination.
Series leader Wade Thompson (Serco Yamaha) won heat three, but the fierce competition with Gianni Dalle-Molle (Fly Kawasaki) and local twins Matt and Jake Moss (AXO Yamaha, Sussex Inlet) ended with top three places eventually going to Gianni Dalle Molle, followed by Matt Moss and Jake Moss in second and third places. Thompson made fourth and retains his series lead.
Slow lap times in torrential rain during the practise sessions meant race organizers were forced to reformat the evening's schedule: The Semi finals and Pro Open Superpole were cancelled, with each of the Pro and Lite Pro Open races being 10 minutes plus one lap, instead of the usual six-lap heats and 15 or 20 lap finals. The juniors rode three cumulative heats as usual, but with two heats of 10 minutes plus one lap and the third heat just three laps.
The Schick XTreme-3 Big Air Nationals (freestyle) were cancelled due to the dangerous conditions.

The Australian Supercross Nationals moves to Newcastle's EnergyAustralia Stadium for Round 8 on March 13th.
