How long did ya do it before giving up? it's not something that's easy and quick to do, it takes hours of elbow grease to get anything worth showing off. Best way to know that it's cleaning it, is look at the rag, if it's black after rubbing, then shit's comin off and it's cleaning...just take ya time.

I was originally gunna use the round pollish buffer we got for the drill, but:
* The area i wanted to polish wasn't big enough
* Ya cant apply enough pressure, it'd still take hours,
* You still need to use copius amounts of Autosol
* and they're not meant for complete pollishing from scratch, they're for shining allready pollished surfaces.

So i guess ya could give it a go, but i dont think it'll last long.

better off getting it chrome dipped for $50
on my old bike i got the exhaust and muffler done for $150 from HPC

Sounds like someone's afraid of a lil work LOL, I'd rather spend a few hours puttin my own hard work into my bike pollishin it myself than spend money and take the easy way out. Although, maybe gettin it dipped would make it last longer.....

how long will it last if you polish it by hand?

It'll last forever if ya keep up with it, cleaning wise. It's just pollishing and chrome dipping are 2 different things. Pollish is just shining the metal to a reflective finish, it's essentially buffing off the protective layer on the metal bringin it back to bare metal, where as Chrome is actually shiny all the time, so all ya'd need to do with it is give it a wash, as apposed to havin to repolish it all the time to keep the shine
