Jono, you might take this the wrong way. but mate. just because you just got it into the pit on ya 50, doesnt mean your gunna land it sweet on your big bike straight away.. i dont think there should be a how to for a backflip.. kids are stupid, and will try it.. break there neck. and off they fly.

i may be wrong but my wen it cums to a backflip i think it has to do with having confidance and the right mental thinking... i think a backflip would be more mental then physical in sum sence. i havnt done a backflip so i wouldnt know, mayb someone like Bilko could give a hand
but ay if ya dont agree go out, lean back and be hard on the throttle lol..

very true. on the 23rd of december 06 (of course) myself and four other mates went n took one of our ramps out to a spot wher we had made a jump for the flip. i was the first one to go for it n got it on the first go, and i remember that in the run up all i was doin was telling my self to commit, n i did n it payed off. a couple day later me n Quentin, (one of the guys who went out last time) went out ther again to do some more, n we had pulled a few but mine didnt feel rite, n i ended up crashing a few times which made me frustrated and i wasnt thinking rite, i was hesitant riding up to it. so far all 4 of us guys that do FMX in Pt Lincoln have pulled flips on our big bikes. Myself, Sam Balnaves CR250, Dylan Puckridge CR250, Quentin ****son KX250f and Brad Hage KX250f, brads last atempt ended with a broken leg. im still workin on getting the footage of it all, so when i do ill post it up.
ne way thats my 2cents worth haha, probly more. hopefully that gave u guys abit of an insight to flipping big bikes and the consiquences of tryin them

yeh i agree that the backflip is mostly mental, probly 80% mental 20% physical. by the way im quentin from south australia that sam talked about. theres not really much you have to do physically to do a flip, mainly two key points, one is that unlike jumping normally you dont let the front of the bike come up to your chest, you lean back with it. the second is that you have to gas it a fair bit on the ramp ( how much you gas it depends on your technique) when you gas it you will need to pull back on the bars firmly and smoothly, and also push out with your feet. make sure you pull evenly with both hands otherwise u will probly go sideways, and if you pull too aggresivly ur hands could slip off. i havnt done it over 75ft yet, but over 45 ft you still approach the ramp at about the same speed because when you gas it on the ramp all that speed goes into you rotation not distance. one more important thing is DO NOT LOOK AT THE FRONT GUARD because this will result in the bike rotating and you not (and usually a crash), when you front wheel leaves the ramp you should be basically looking at the sky already. thats about all i can say, the rest is up to how ready you are to do it. i would defiently advise atleast doing it on a pushbike, if not a minibike before you even think about it on a big bike. good luck

not always dalt my mate callum went from his 50 straight to the big bike n landed it sweet in the pit first try n hes done it about 8 times now. hes just waiting on a downie to be built. but it is true its all in your head
... well thats my opinion................... catchyas

its not all in ur head. cause a guy never riden a bike could be mad lunatic and try but then crash. . i say with these simple rules.
rule 1. pray
rule 2. do a practice jump to get the speed right. but always have a little more speed when flipn cause when u flip it dont get asmuch distance then a usall jump.
rule 3. pull off the lip.throwing ur head back. thats one key thing always throw the head back.
rule 4. hold on. and commit.
rule 5. spot the landing/ downy
rule 6. land and ride away to see another day.
thats what i did and i can flip

bit different goin from pit strait to dirt dude, in pit ya kno tha landing is still guna b softer than dirt, so that takes away a fair bit of the uncertanty. pit still hurts, but dirt is a hell of a lot harder than foam obviously. just dont think that cos uve got it sweet into pit its guna b easy goin to dirt for the first time. ne way stay safe n keep us informed how ya mate goes on his attempd to dirt

if ur mid flip and it duznt feel right dont look forward or bail off....just hold on..commitment is the key as we have already established in this thread but yeh ya just gotta do it..im only talking from my pushy expierences..i'd guess yad be pullen on the bars a bit harder on 50 so yeh...my 2 cents

No its not all in your head. obviously you need to kno how to ride a bike. if u try a flip to dirt and cant ride u deserve to crash.
some thing that makes it alot easier is to loop you bike out on the jump, i dont mean loop it out and jump off the back, but u should almost beable to get the bike verticle before u have to hit the rear brakes (you will most probly land on the back wheel which doesnt really matter). if you do this for a while before you attempt it it gives you a heaps good judge on how much you will actually need to accelerate and lean. Sam and i had never flipped anything to dirt, only thing we had done was flip bishbike to foam pit and we were able to flip out 250s to dirt within 2 attempts, but we were 100% sure we wanted to do it and would do it, and had been doing it in our heads for at least 3 months before doing it.
oh and what fiddy freestyle said is true, on your 1st attemp u will have know idea where you are and basically trip out and think your gunna land on your head, but there will be a good chance you will come round (provided you have done all ur preperation and comitted 100%).

I don't particularly like this rule for myself lol. Practice jump would give me too much time to think bad thoughts. I flipped 250 to foam the first time I jumped a superkicker cause I figured if I straight jumped it first I'd just be more worried about flippin the next time haha. Got the distance fine which surprised myself too... Will probably be the same when dirt time comes I'd say. :p

My first flip on a 50 was out at Ponde sand drags fmx comp, i borowd some guys 125 thumpstar n nailed it after the 10th go, was pretty waisted. ive done plenty of flips on pushys before but i rekon flippin a 50 is so much easyer. givin it throttle on the ramp helps alot as well n havin suspencion helps u keep hold of the bike when u land...

yeh i agree.. not that i have flipped a 50 but like any tiny little wrong move on a pushie n ure gone cos there so touchy n if u over rotate just a tiny bit then youll most likely flip of the back because of the short wheelbase n no suspension to absobe it LOL trust me ive done that many times hahaha
ive flipped n xr50 into the pit tho n u get the rotation so much easier...
later guys
