The crowd was kept entertained well after the final ‘official’ run of the competition when Nasty, Stephen Murray and Colin Mackay epitomized the Planet X philosophy of going all out, all the time, by taking part in a free-for-all that saw some of the biggest tricks of the day.
Earlier, Nastazio was by far the most consistent rider during the competition and his score of 86.83 was enough to get the gold around his neck. Even when things didn’t go to plan for the American, he still managed to jump his way out of trouble.
“When I messed up something I was able to change in mid air,” Nastazio said. “Luckily my mind was working today.”
Australia’s Colin Mackay finished with the silver medal after landing several huge back flips and a superman-seat-grab with massive air. Fellow Australian Corey Bohan also delivered some awesome back flips, and the odd tail whip, in securing the bronze.
The competition, however, was overshadowed by the impromptu jam session that took place after it.
Murray, who missed out on the medals by only .06, went off as he attempted to land a 360 turn down back flip. Bruised and battered at the end of the day, the Brit was just happy to have been part of the action.
“Everyone pushed the limits out there, and that’s what it’s all about.”
