I have the materials for my aus comp ramp, but i am unable to assemble it at the moment because we only have an angle grinder, and i cant cut straight enough!! ;doh;
it is really getting to me, coz i cant wait to have my ramp and give it a go. i have never jumped a ramp, and it looks like fun!!!

well im going to have to. either that or borrow another one from someone else. i should have organised it ages ago. because i am going back to boarding school in a few days, and i think i might be going to sydney till then. oh well. at least i have the materials. it will get done..

u can buy a cheap circualr saw for like $50 i think. but the blade to cut steal with is going to be expensive, uve gotta get a diamond blade and theyre like 20-40 $$. boarding school? man that must suck.
if u cud be bothered u could just use a hacksaw but i dunno what thickness your using so ur probably better off getting a circualr saw.

boarding school is heaps good, i love it. it is just like living with your mates, and it is co-ed, so i also basically live with my girlfriend!! ha ha ha. anyway, i dont think i will use a hacksaw, i could, but i am not going to bother.

Well I know it's a bit late now but just for future knowledge, maybe the other guys meant this by circular saw but you will probably want a drop saw for the best job. It uses discs not blades and is meant for metal so yeah. Sweet deal livin with the gf too ay! ;)

7th July 2004, 08:16 PM

8th July 2004, 12:15 AM
oooh i see, is there money involved in this....'dare'?
robson
8th July 2004, 12:28 AM
no, no money, but the idea has merit, as no-one will steal it (not that i have heard of ramp stealing, but wouldnt suprise me) and when i post pics, people will always know it is me/my ramp....
has anyone ever seen a pink ramp?? lol... my dad said that he wont be seen buying pink paint, so i would have to go get it. ha ha ha ha ha

LOL pink...better not say that word too loud Kim'll be in here wantin to pay you whatever it takes to get that ramp in her front lawn just for the pure fact of it's colour LOL. Most colourfull ramp i seen was Rhys's "Grimus" LOL. it was a nice bright purple :p

yeh pink will be sweet.
for the ramp surfafe, use 18 or 19 mm marine ply,an paint it with river sand.
sadly ramp stealing does happen so it is a good security measure aswell i guess.lol.

8th July 2004, 08:15 PM
i am now thinking black rather than pink. but as my dad said, "the dirt will show" ha haha. I think that a black ramp will be pretty cool, and i might get me (not sure how) a mad banner to put on the back of it for photo shoots.lol.
and as for the surface i have decided to use expanded mesh. i figure that it will basically never need anymore work done on it, where as with ply (coz i will never end up repaintiong and putting sand it.

I'm all for the pink!! You can just paint it again once the dare's satisfied anyway, too easy. Hey if you go with the mesh and sheet metal, I wonder if you could put designs and stuff on the sheet metal and it will show through the mesh? That would be sick as I reckon! And it won't wear out either since you're not actually riding on it, how good's that! Give it a go if you're game man, write ya name or somethin on it, maybe a bunch of graffiti and stuff, would look sick as if it showed through the mesh good I reckon. If you do try it, throw pics up and let us know how it goes and stuff!
Personally my ramp is made outta galvanised stuff so the only painted parts are the welds, silver of course so the whole thing is silver. And we got ply on the top and haven't repainted it, the grip stuff has worn off but I don't seem to be having any grip worries at the moment so I don't care hehe.:D

hey gstyle, my ramps galvy and my teacher was tellin me to get some stuff in a can called so gal or somethin, i think he said its full of zinc or something??, just wonderin what you used on ya welds to stop em from rusting??
GStylEr
9th July 2004, 01:23 PM
Um, to my knowledge we just used silver spray paint... If the water can't get to the metal it can't rust basically so it's not a huge worry. But I guess if ya want you can try a can of that stuff, for peace of mind, should only need 1 or 2 cans for the welds. Are you painting the whole ramp later or not? If so I wouldn't bother gettin the so gal, a full paint coat will protect it plenty I would imagine.

could you get a ramp powdercoated? and im up for a pink ramp that woudl look trick ay!
Mungoman45
9th July 2004, 02:41 PM
Technically ya could....as i was thinking the very same thing when/if i make another one, but the fact is, it would be too expensive. I remember gettin my old TT frame powedercoated, that cost $100/$110 or something...imagine a massive ramp shell....would be hundreds, probably closer to the thousands. I cant imagine bein able to get a quote for gettin it done either without actually taken a ramp shell into em and gettin em to look it over.

9th July 2004, 03:55 PM
holy shite!!! is that all??!!, i thought it was hell expensive to powdercoat a frame?, thats sick!! i cant believe i havnt seen more gold frames cr's and what not around.

well i have finished building the first smaller half of my ramp. i decided to use expanded mesh as the surface. I hit it about 20 mins ago and it was sweet. i cant wait to finish building the rest of it so i can get some more kick out of it.

No need for the blown gasket Charlie, lol... Brad wasn't saying Pinks a bad colour, o' contrare, he was simply stating the obvious that you love pink so much and you would be up in arms about something pink... and he was absolutely 100% correct, judging by your reply lol

its been so long since i have been on here. Extremely slack of me. but anyway just letting you guys and girls out there that i did finish my ramp and its pretty sick.. it was supposed to be an AUS comp ramp in specifications, but ended up being 5.8m long and 2.6m high with the 8m radius. So it has a bit more of a kick than its supposed to but what i have done is dug it into the ground about 200mm-300mm just so i can get the hang of it a bit more. i ahve only jumped it a few times coz i still have to make my landing heaps bigger, and i have not been home much. But i cant wait to go home for a while and really get it going..
