A Big Thank you to www.transworldmotocross.com For Info on FMX around the World.. Drop in and sus there site out .. :)

In FMX news, the countdown to Winter X in Aspen this weekend has everyone doing their homework, and the rumor mills are churning strongly. Though most athletes are being tight-lipped about tricks (the Winter X format crowns a winner based off of the best single jump of three from each rider, so most go for the surprise factor), you can be sure that there’s going to be lots of flipping going on, along with plenty of new variations of the upside-down trick. Some of the gossip that we’ve heard is that last year’s bronze medallist Caleb Wyatt is doing extended no-handed flips into the foam pit, and even setting his eyes on the coveted, first-ever double backflip! Other riders are doing seatgrab flips, and don’t count out any spinning flips like the ones we saw at Summer X being pulled on the ice next weekend in Aspen.

We witnessed firsthand some of the madness that will be unveiled in Aspen while shooting photos with Twitch and Ox yesterday at the Mulisha Compound in Brian Deegan’s Temecula, CA backyard. Of course, the boys asked us not to share their secret weapons with the masses, but let’s just say that if you have any interest whatsoever in FMX, don’t miss the X Games telecast next week! While there, we caught up with Deegan and tried to get him to reveal what he has in store for us as he prepares to regain his Winter X crown that was lost to Mike Metzger last year. Here’s what the Mulisha General had to say:

Hey Brian, how are things looking for next week’s competition?

Things are looking great, man. I don’t want to tell people what I have up my sleeve because I’ll lose the element of surprise by doing it, but I have been working really, really hard this year to get my gold medal back. Also, I want to back up my performance at Summer X and show everyone that I’m still on the top of this sport.

Sounds like you have something pretty good…

For sure. It’s going to be a good weekend, that’s all I’m saying. I’m pretty confident. (Laughs)

Does having the foam pit change things a lot for you?

Definitely. It’s almost like a whole new sport now. It’s definitely a whole new era in the sport, anyway. The things we can try now are unbelievable. It really opens up a whole new door of creativity. I mean, it still hurts when you go down wrong, but for the most part the sky’s the limit on what we can now try on our bikes. Every time I train, I’m trying something new. It also helps out a lot with confidence. If there’s something you know you can do, but don’t want to try it over dirt your first time, you can get it wired in the pit. After landing perfectly a bunch of times in foam, you’re ready to do it fairly safely on dirt.

In other FMX news, Matt Buyten got things together at the Dallas, Texas IFMA round held Friday night. Buyten won Friday’s event ahead of Darin Connet and Drake McElroy. By doing so Buyten snuck up on current points leader Andy Jones, leaving Texas tied in points with the kid from Oklahoma after Jones aborted a couple of jumps on the slippery Dallas dirt to finish the weekend with a seventh on Friday and an eighth on Saturday.

Night two in Texas was all Dustin Miller’s, as the Reno resident claimed victory over Beau Bamburg and McElroy. Miller has reportedly been working hard at his new backyard course, which is said to be one of the most comprehensive, beautiful FMX facilities around. Watch out for all of the Reno boys in the coming weeks…

Speaking of IFMA points leader Andy Jones, our pal Andy just signed a new sponsorship deal with Split Clothing, effective immediately. Jones previously wore Shift gear, but will now be decked out in special Split riding gear. The outfit will most likely consist of casual clothing like shorts and tees, which many of the FMX riders wear as opposed to traditional MX gear. Congrats, Andy!
