Good timing this post... and wow what a crazy pic..
I just lashed out today and bought myself a whiz bang Canon EOS 10D Digital SLR... Cost me a tad under $3000 just for the camera body without a lense.. Gotta love interest free... I also bought the Pro Pack thing and a cheap lense for now.. Then lense I really want is another $2500 so I think that can wait for now as I need to eat in the next few months lol
I pick it up in the morning... woooot I have under 48 hours to learn to use it though before I am at planet X so should be interesting :) Standby for a heap of really really good Planet X pics or else maybe a whole heap of blury pics that look like then lens cap is still on....
More info on my new toy here:

it's interesting to talk about this on this site .Hey , Insane , maybe you could do a part dedicated to how to shoot FMX in the forum ?????????? I'm sure we are not alone to think about it .....
Nice investment anyway , you're on the way .
Do some senior photographer take part of this forum sometimes ?????
thank you for your contribution NGX , this may help many ppl here that want to start with digi , but who is Billy B ? Does somebody gets is E-mail .
Well , here are some stuff i think about FMX pics , for me , i must see the height of the jump (if we can see landing or ramp as indicator or sometimes both ) , it must be jam pics or training pics , i don't like contests pics that much (i prefer see the rider in the country not with too much advertisements and people )......that's just my opinion .
Ho , here's another one as present .sorry i didn't get enough time to clean my scan .

nice camera choice Adam, exactley what I'm lookin at, good thing my lenses will fit the 10D, let me know how it goes at X games cos i'm seriously thinking bout investing in one.
frontside, as for shooting, i generally shoot from the side, while the guys are practicing i get my timing right and do like a pan shot and get the feel right, but generally i'm good to shoot after a few snaps, gonna be a change when i go digi, hey Adam can you let me know if there is much of a "lag" time between when u press the shutter button and when it takes the pic, i'm hoping there isn't, hey have a killer time at x games!

I got mine for my 21st B-Day, but i believe it was around the $750 mark......then ya gotta (ya dont have to, but to recharge the batteries ya need it, and Digi's suck through normal batteries) a gotta buy a "docking station" charger, and they run for anything from $150 upwards, for a plain one right up to like $500-$600 or so for those snazy ones with printers and shit built in.

I got my camera and all I can say is woooot woot
and another wooot...
Here is one of the first pics I took - Taken on about the third
highest camera camera setting, reduced to 20% of original and
then compressed for the web.
Click here (http://www.fmxaustralia.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=2080) to see the same pic, still on third highest setting
and compressed, it just hasn't been reduced and is the size the
pics come straight off the cam.
As for lag when clicking the button is seems fast as but will let
you know more after this weekend...
As for why I go, basicly I go for a bit fun and I enjoying seeing
Australia's best ride, I firgured I might as well take pics`for this
site while I am there and its kinda gone form there... ;)

HAHA, freakin sweet, now i KNOW everyone will ask, so I'll be the 1st to jump in....nice clear, sweet pic, even for a reduced web sample, but the plates......Photoshopped? or real?
kyle
9th January 2004, 12:04 AM
you can tell they are photo shopped, as they plates should be "3D" sort of pocking out.
Insane
9th January 2004, 12:07 AM
Thanks and yer photoshopped ;) I had ordered those plates from vicroads but in black and white slimlines but hadn't had the money nor decided whether I wanted them on the car.. People remember pesonalised plates easier and stuff.. I think they are still sitting at vic roads waiting to be paid for...

Some are now printed flat like that too... They dont indent the plates for some reason, can't remember which type though maybe the yellow and brown ballarat / goldfields ones... cant remember..

with my camera... a cannon ixus 400. if im shooting bikes in the air, will i need to use manual or will it work on auto?
havent had the chance to test it myself
pic_takin_chick
13th January 2004, 03:54 PM
the only way you will find which is better for you is to test it, try both see which works better for what you want, but i dont see why auto would be a problem

14th January 2004, 02:04 AM
what i mean by thechnique is that i use my camera ONLY in manual mode for best results and to do effects on my photographies .
I start to shoot some pictures using flash (even in daylight) as it is done in Snowboard ,skateboard and BMX .And i apply it to my FMX photos .I have to improve , but the first results are good looking , if you know Garth Milan's work , i think you understand what i mean ..... (Transworld MX photographer )
Here is an exemple i post that couldn't be done in Auto Mode (i've done this BMX pic 3 months ago .

sorry i don't know andrew currie , as i'm in Europe i don't get access to australian magazines (i would like to .....) .But there so many good alternative sports photographers here too .
For myself i just focus on the 2 disciplines i like much because i practice BMX and FMX .

i have a canon eos 300 and it does the job. i have around 5 lenses and one fisheye. ill post some pics up soon
JEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEZUS!, 4200 pixels wide is TOO BIG for the forums man, good GOD, the damn thing wouldn't even load completely. Biggest one we got in here is about half the size of that at just over 2100 pixels i think, so maybe, if ya reduce it a lil, it may load ;). Looked like a nice shot of Crusty but, so IF ya can figure out how to resize, we'd love to see it, otherwise, dont bother postin, cause it wont load :(~Mungo:cool:
