Racer X: Chad, what are you up to?
Chad Reed: Actually, I’m playing the MotoGP video game.

Really? Which rider are you?
I’m mixing it up a little bit….

Are you any good at it?
I’m okay, but as you know, I love the sport of MotoGP.

Probably more than pool, huh?
Yeah [laughs].

How is the shoulder?
It’s pretty good. It feels strange to not be able to ride and stuff like that, but I went to see the doctor today and he told me it’s looking pretty good.

What have you been doing to accelerate the rehabilitation process?
Jeff Spencer and I have been doing a lot of rehabilitation. It’s a lot of hard work. We’ve been working on things that normally you would not do, but it’s been intense and really tough, but we’re concentrating hard on [the shoulder], and I have strong confidence I’ll make it to the opening round of the series at Anaheim.

Have you been able to get on the bike at all?
No, I have not ridden in over three weeks.

Will you be able to get any seat time in before Anaheim?
I’m hoping to get on the bike and ride it at least a couple times before the Anaheim opener. Unfortunately, it’s going to be that close. You know, this whole thing was sprung on me, and I just have to deal with it. My whole priority is to get through the first Anaheim weekend, then to start looking towards the entire series.

Did you watch the Seville and Arnhem THQ World Supercross GP races on TV?
Yes, I did. Seville did not look fun. Watching that race actually made having surgery seem okay [laughs]. I didn’t feel like I was missing anything there! Man, it looked awful. The next race in Holland was good to watch and made me miss riding and being in Europe. But Seville? I didn’t feel bad about missing that race at all!

What else have you been up? Just laying low?
Yeah, just laying low. I’ve just been doing my rehabilitation during the day and trying to get better and better. You know, three weeks ago I felt I had put myself in the best possible position to win the supercross title. I was in the best shape of my life – both on and off the bike. Now here I am, three weeks later, in this position. It’s going to be a challenge to come back from the injury, but I’m looking forward to it. I’ve been hearing stories out there and I’m looking forward to getting the season started.

Stories like, so-and-so is going super-fast on the practice track and has a shot at the title now?
Yeah, exactly.

Well, we seem to hear stories like that year in and year out.
Sure. It’s cool. It’ll be a challenge, but I’m really ready to face it.

Well, we’ll let you get back to playing MotoGP. Thanks for taking our call, Chad.
No problem. Hey, what’s this interview for?

We’re going to post it up on the site today.
Cool, thanks. Now everyone will know what’s going on - and that I plan to be at Anaheim 1.

We’ll see you in a few weeks.
Yes, you will. Thanks again.
