tag 2's are the weakest bar on the market(tapered) i have seen the independent test results, pro taper came out on top and even crappy no name brands beat it, my local shop dosent stock for the fear of someone crashing and snapping them and them having to take the blame.
POR TAPER

which of the 2 is cheaper? with the clamps and stuff

Christ, i find TAG T2's the weakest bar on the market hard to believe. I've crashed em on my 250 doin a 5th gear tapped mono and thats not a slow, nor light crash and they didn't flinch at all. TAG's are one of the best bars on the market in my opinion. I've been through 2 sets of Renthals on my old bike, on a lot smaller crashes than that and they bent and cracked all over the joint.
Not to mention Mungoman M actually clean cracked a set in half. So even if they are the weakest Tapered bars, they're a shitload better than normal other ones, such as Renthal. I'd like to see these results ya speak of Kyle. Not callin ya a lier or anything drastic like that, but I'd like to see how they actually stacked up. TAG's are $180, oversized clamps to go with em are around $75. where as the Pro Tapers are are around $250 just for the bars, basically the same as TAG's only cost more in my opinion.

man go the pro tapers, ive had 1 set on my bike for like 5 months now, and they still same shape i got em in, they put up with a bit of $h%# , the only thing i seen go wrong with them is when my brother almost totaled his bike, and his tapers snaped but that was crazy bad, and they go for around $180-200

I'm going go out on a limb and say that if money is no object(which it probably isn't) go Renthal "Twin Walls." Stronger then any other bar on the market. Those pups will break your triple clamps(you'd have to have a very big crash for that to happen mind you) before they bend but they won't help absorb impacts like tapered bars do. Renthal has a tapered handlebar called "Fat Bar." I'd get them but thats mainly because I personally like Renthals. You could also get Renthal 7/8 Bars, they don't cost all that much and are a good stock replacment but obviously arn't as strong as the oversized bars. In the end I think there all good bars and it just comes down to personal taste/cost.

Yup, I also looked at those when i was on the market, but thats the reason i steered away from em, the fact that they'd snap clamps before bending the bar probably isn't the best thing. I think i'd rather replace a bar than a set of triple clamps.

since I started riding with them Protapers I dont get as much arm pump and I would never ride with any other bar now. And there as strong as shit I hit a tree 5th gear flat on my old Yz 125 2000 model when trail riding and broke my hand and pushed 2 of my fingers about 2cm back into my hand and I was knocked out cold and the protapers didnt bend or brake the best bar I have riden on.

I have landed on em,...hard and fast. This site does have a reviews section, although there arn't many in there at the moment, i did take the time to write a review 1st time i crashed with my new TAG T2's. Adam also slapped up a glowing report, Check it out HERE (http://www.fmxaustralia.com/modules.php?s=&name=Reviews&rop=showcontent&id=7)

i think that chart say how many people buy them so what does that have to say other then they have more customers, plus its an AD for tapers, not an article

i find my protapers take a bashing and they are still straight which is weird caused ive come off the thing that many time and theyre still straight but thtas a good thing so i say go pro tapers all the way

thanks for all your replies and comments, but in the end it came down to tha mulla. so i went with the tag x5. there not tapered but there strong. thanks y'all
Aus_Yobbo
18th February 2004, 01:58 AM
the chart is nothing to do with how many people buy them. and if it were, pro taper would not be first, nor tag last obviously. the chart is to do with strength, and if u read it it all seems above board and accurate. Its really a stupid argument anyway. Tags and pro tapers cost the same. and seeing as many many people say/test pro tapers as stronger, u might as well get them over tags, cause they're not gonna be weaker. (unless u want a blue/red bar)

TAGS ROCK i have had mine for over a year now, not bent at all but i think you would find that the way that they are heat treated would make them snap more than bend. like you always see bent 7/8 renthals and tag x5's but you never really see bent t2 or tapers, mabie its just me

Whether its a add or not its the truth otherwise they would get sued for false advertisning
In teh last 2 seasons i broke 5 bars of tags and 2 renthals, so this year i got pro tapers and there really strong

meh australasian did an independant test a while back on all the bars and... you guessed it!! Pro Taper won hands down. They whipped Tags. my mate has the mag but i really cant be bothered trackin it down and scanning it. So basically, every time pro tapers are compared to to Tag, by who ever, pro tapers come out on top. i think that pretty much says it all

do u mean tag ?
pro tapers RRP is $199 and tags RRP is $179
i can get the tags for $150 and pro tapers for $170. clamps for $30. but my bike had them on when i got it, so no need to get any.

21st September 2004, 10:40 PM
nah Mat Mladin has them on sale i think, I can also get the clamps very cheap and could get the fly bars cheap but figure that quality of pro taper is way better, might just wait a bit and maybe bike shops will have a big sale and i could get em cheaper

20th October 2004, 01:56 PM
lol... ohh not this debate still....
Everything my original pair of Pro Tapers have gone through so far:
1. Double Nac that ended in me having a shoulder reconstruction, big crash... didn't bend the bars much
2. My bike was in a trailer, tie-downs snapped on one side and it fell out of the trailer and was getting dragged on the bitument being held by the one side of the bars.... still in one piece
3. Came up short and cased hard, bounced over the bike and knocked out cold... Bars were still fine
4. Doing mono's and flipped the bike and landed hard on the left hand side.... no bending
5. Hitting 70 foot and I hit first gear as I was approaching ramp, managed to stop in time before going over the ramp, but I fell off the side as I was getting off it and landed heavy on bars, bent a little but nothing too bad
6. Hit a Red Bull sign at KOTC and didn't bend to much again
so with all those heavy landings as of late, my bars are almost back in the original position when I bought them from being bent, skewed in every direction hahaha and they're still fine :D
Robbo66

Very magically bars Snitz:p
But these debates always end up with.. "Well I done a 459ft ghostie, and the bars didn't even get a scratch".
FoXrAcInG.2 ended up buying reikon oversized bars.
Definatly Quality bars, and I see lots of top riders over here who ride for yamaha use these bars. Probably my next choice of bars. If not.. Renthal twinwalls.
