Yes, Mosh is right, which type of Camera are you looking at getting? Digital or Normal? and Redbull is also right in saying if ya got the moolah to spend on a digital, get the one with the biggest mega pixels :), Mine is 3.2 and it serves it's purpose quite well, can print out Photo quality to A3 size, but the biggest pixels now a days is around 5.5 or so. Also check zoom quality and Shutter speed, but I'm far from a camera expert, the best people i can think of to give some decent knowledgable advice would be either Noel (NGX) or Lisa (Pic_taken_chic)... I'll try and get one or both of em in here soon to shed some in depth light on the situation. :D

everyone says go for more megapixels, but once you get to four there is no difference, the difference is in the size of the lense, bigger more photo area lets more light in to have better pictures, also the more expensive ones will have a larger opictal zoom, which like a normal zoom on camera, it comes out and it will have digital zoom which zooms on the picture, so it is not clear. 500 will get you a very good sony 5 megapixels withabout 6x optical zoom it will make small mpeg movies, depends on the size of your card. are you after a normal digital or a SLR digital?

ON a Digi, Digital zoom is useless so ignore that, only worry bout Optical zoom. 3 mega pixel is enough for mx photos and the like i think. Burst shooting is something to think about, takes a sequence of shots. I have a $579 Panasonic LC33. It does burst at 4 shots a second at 3.2 mega pixels, that great for getting shots of a trick when you are fully extended. all the pix in my gallery are done with a 3 mega pixel camera if you wanna check them out.

mmm well - slr stands for SINGLE LENS REFLEX - meaning u see in the veiwfinder exactly what u r going to take a pic of ( through the use of a mirror inside the cam) - these cams all have interchangable lenses

simply stated - it means u can have interchangable lenses -

slr digis have interchangable lenses and tend to be a lot more pro........ none under 1000 so forget it

non slrs's have add on lenses but can still kick ass as ngx could tell ya

if u could get yaself 1800 u could get the nikon 5700 - 1 kick ass cam

yeh all u got to do is compare price, mp, optical zoom, speed and wether it is user friendly - forget about other stuff....all gimicks

if u plan to print pics mp is important...if just 4 pc...less important (dont go under 3 though) - min of 3x optical zoom

shutter speed is how quick the photo is taken.not how quick before u can take the next pic - both r important though.....esp taking action pics so suss that out also the reaction time once u press the button to take pic........some have bad lag times.....this will shit ya off to no end

try to stick with better named brands - canon, nikon, olympus, sony

Geez Bill, get inside my head why don't ya, lol I've been away for a while so yeh I'm totally behind the news, Hollywood, go digi cos seriously soon film cams r gonna be goooonnneee! lol Also if u eva have to fly anywhere lot easier to get thru the metal detector thingy, cos now with apparent "beefed up" security they don't really hand check film anymore which can be a pain and warp film, so bye bye good pics. Anyhoo yeh Noel and Bill are totally the ppl you wanna listen to when it comes to cam knowledge, I'm so close-minded, it's Canon or nothing! lol

Hey guys I'm just wondering if the Nikon Coolpix 5700/5900 whatever it is is good for moto shots? My Aunt has one so I was wondering if it would be worth borrowing for a bit until I get one, probably a Fuji S5000 I was thinking. I don't know why I haven't at least got to play with the Nikon yet, too lazy I guess :p And of course I know the D1x is better, but I don't have the bling layin around just at the moment for one of those babies lol.

kyle
6th January 2004, 05:55 PM
thats the one im looking at like 470 plus shipping from hongkong, but they have a slow shutter speed, 2 secs which is crap, do you know if it has a burst mode?

GStylEr
6th January 2004, 06:26 PM
Nah the shutter speed has a range from 2 secs to 1/2000th of a sec... otherwise it'd be useless for takin pics of anything other than sloths hahaha. The main thing I try to be careful of is that lag that digi's have after you push the release to when the shutter goes, some have ridiculous lag that ya just can't get used to. Lol I see you also found the wonders of Ebay... that's where I'll be getting mine if I get it, pretty much same price. It says it has continuous shooting, 5/sec at 6MP for 1 sec, so 5 shots, or 40 shots on 1MP at 1.8/sec. So that would be burst I'm assuming.
