Ailo Gaup from Norway takes FMX Gold and defends his IFMXF World Ranking title in Oberhausen!

Benoit Milot (CAN) and Mathieu Rebeaud (SUI) set new IFMXF Highest-AIR World record of 11 meters!

10 of the worlds best freestyle motocross riders converge to battle it out at the IFMXF World Cup super final in Oberhausen, Germany!

All eyes were on Oberhausen, Germany for the 2nd consecutive year to see who would take the title of IFMXF World Ranking winner and who would be crowned 2003 season champion. Great names like Red Bull rider "Mad" Mike Jones and Nick Franklin met up against incredible athletes the like of Ailo Gaup and Dayne Kinnaird among many others. Now the mecca of FMX in Europe, the World Cup proved to be a "who's who" of the international FMX elite and, once and for all, showed that the European and international level is on par with the best in the scene.

The 12-man roster, plagued by injuries, was reduced to a ten-strong field of freestylers out of 8 nations from around the globe. Big contender and previous world ranking leader, Fabian Bauersachs from Germany, had to step down due to an in jury to the knee sustained earlier in the week. Swedish rider Fredrik Johansson also had to call it a night after struggling through a fitful training session with a bad case of the flu and fever.

The rest of the 10 riders took to the qualification round with a vengeance and presented only the best of FMX on the planet today. Surprise qualifier turned out to be Sebastian Wolter from Germany who ripped out an amazing run landing him on second position for the super final later in the night. Ailo Gaup, 1st in the IFMXF world ranking previous to the event, pulled through by pulling an amazing backflip in the qualifications getting him a well deserved pole position for the final six later in the night. The 6.000 strong crowd thanked him through standing ovations.

Next up was the traditional IFMXF whip contest which hosted 6 riders in groups of two fighting it out over the 4 strong final. Picture perfect whips and great moves made it difficult for the 5 strong jury to announce the winner. In the end, Benoit Milot from Canada took the show by a smooth and hard core run that gained him a deserved crowning as IFMXF World Cup whip champ.

Step-Up / "König-Pilsener" Highest-AIR contest

Five riders gathered and hit the track for the Step-Up and geared up to break the IFMXF record of 9,00meters set at the World Cup in in Salzburg, Austria. Included in the line up was Salzburg highest-AIR winner Mat Rebeaud from Switzerland as well as Benoit Milot, Kris Brock, Gary Taylor and US-Bad boy Mike Jones. All the riders seemed to have been taking flight lessons as the bar steadily rose from meter to meter. First out was Mad Mike who dislocated his shoulder after the 8meter mark, went to the pit to bang it in again, and took a seat as spectator for the rest of the contest. Next out of the comp were both UK riders Kris Brock and Gary Taylor who had to take leave after hitting the 10meter mark. The last two riders left in the line-Up were Benoit Milot out of Canada and title defender Mat Rebeaud from Switzerland. The bar was raised to the maximum height of 11meters and both cleared it with room to spare and massive applause from the crowd.

The adrenalin charged arena then revved up for the final super six riders of the evening. Hard-core airs and sick tricks filled the runs of each of the finalists. Every rider put on a brave 2-minute jump session. Sebastian Wolter from Germany had the "run of his life" taking him to a surprise 3rd position in the points of the evening. Again Ailo Gaup who, after the last event in Spain, has been leading the IFMXF World Ranking with 1 point ahead of Germany's Fabian Bauersachs, took the absolute pole position with another backflip which not only got him the title of IFMXF 2003 World Champ but also IFMXF World Ranking Leader 2003. Ailo now has a firm 27-point lead in front of Fabian Bauersachs in the World Rankings (see Below).
